It’s been another exciting and busy week on the forums, so here’s a little update on some of the goings on. Be sure to check out our fuel economy forums for even more:

• No More Corn Syrup: Forum member Ben Nelson goes on a crusade against corn syrup. No, it’s not a euphemism for ethanol, but the actual corn syrup you eat. Sure, it’s not ecomodding, but it’s fun and interesting.
• Mimicking Prius Exhaust Heat Recovery: An interesting and ongoing project thought up by one of our most active users, Daox.
• Official Pre-assembled MPGuinos for sale: Want the MPGuino without the soldering? Check out this thread.
• VW Golf Exhaust Thermoelectric Power: A 5% bump up in fuel economy is nothing to scoff at when it can be achieved passively, and hopefully on a large scale.

Well, it’s been a while, but I think it’s time to resurrect the weekly updates, especially since this has been a pretty neat week on the forums. So, click through on some of the links below if you want to catch up on the latest, most exciting projects:

• A very pretty MPGuino: There have been a lot of nice MPGuino builds over the last few months, but this is definitely one of the best.
• TopGear stops in to say hi: Someone from TopGear America stops in on the forums to give a preview of their new foray into the MPG arena.
• Prius or TDI: The TDI is currently winning by quite a bit! Shows that ecomodders aren’t all green with Prius envy!
• Going belt commando: A 10% increase in fuel economy is certainly nothing to scoff at.

Anyway, I’m not going to give it all away! For some more great discussion check out the forums yourself.

Well, winter is settling in and I hope you’re all not as sick as I am. Luckily, however, the forum’s got plenty of run stuff to distract me from my ill health.

• 500 Mile Club: Kind of reminds me of baseball. Personally, I’ve made it to the 666 mile club, but I’m exceedingly daring with how far I can drive “below empty.”
• Ecomodders Visit the EV1: Some of EcoModder’s very own got to go see a real EV1, live and in person. Click through for some neat pictures of the car that “sparked” it all.
• The Auto X-Prize Sucks: Member bennelson thinks some of the specifications are too strict for an economy car competition, what do you think?
• Minivan Ecomodding: Can you imagine an ecomodder minivan? I couldn’t, at first, but evidently they exist!

• I love my MPGuino: Well, let’s be fair, who doesn’t!? bbjsw10 has had a bit of trouble getting his MPGuino working, but it seems like it’s all worth it.
• Help me get my bonehead town to allow electric NEV’s: Forum user rmay635703 asks for our help in encouraging his town to make laws allowing for NEV use, but it looks like the “No” votes are piling up quickly.
• Designing/building front wheel skirts v.1.0: Front wheel skirts are definitely one of the trickiest aeromods that can be done, so it’s great to see Darin taking on the challenge.
• Micro-mini Wheel Skirts: Don’t have the heart for full wheel skirts? This thread is for you.

Another week, a lot more interesting content from the forum. Sometimes I feel bad for the people who employ our users, *wink*.

• Car & Driver disses buying old economy cars to save fuel: Ca&Driver decides to take on what many ecomodders, myself included do. I guess it’s cooler to send you 5 year old car to the wrecker’s and buy something from their sponors!
• Ben’s Citicar: Ben Nelson is already well known for his electrometro EV conversion, but he also went out and bought an old electric Citicar, just to mess with us.
• What 0-60 speeds are acceptable to you?: We’re all here for fuel economy, but at what cost? See how slow ecomodders are really willing to go.
• Master list of ecomods to improve MPG: Quite a bit of work went into this, so definitely check it out!
• Tom’s kammback’d Civic VX: TomO has put together a nice, clean kammback install on his Civic VX, good for some inspiration.

Back on time, luckily! There’s been a ton of interesting stuff on the forum, so go check it out, definitely worth a look this week.

• Interesting ecodriving studies and presentations: Forum member groar did some good digging to find out what the pros have been saying about ecodriving for years.
• Busting the non believers: Trikkonceptz works at a dealership and recently had a run in who thought 6.9 MPG was the car’s fault and not his. After Trik got upwards of 20 mpg by following the speed limit, it was clear the guy just didn’t know how to drive responsibly.
• Side-cameras: A lot of us talk about replacing our side mirrors with cameras to cut down on aero drag, but at least someone has finally done it!
• Sawtooth trailing edge: Beware in depth aerodynamics discussion!

Finally, I wish everyone meeting up today in Ohio a lot of fun and hopefully not a lot of rain! Be sure to post pictures, guys!

Well, look at me, late again! I’ve been entertaining a friend of mine from Japan, and last night we went out to NYC, which took up quite a bit of time. However, to make it transportation related, it was my first time on the Park & Ride into the city and it went pretty well.

• An EcoModder’s Dream Fuel Economy Car: Ever wondered what those of us who are really crazy for gas mileage lust over? Kind of silly, but it’s interesting to see what we’d be driving if availability didn’t get in the way.
• Concept Car – Daihatsu UFE-II:Reminds me of my car. Definitely a slick shape that Daihatsu is working on.
• Ditching the car: A great story (via video) of ditching the car for some sweet bike riding.

• Darin goes boat racing: Well, it’s no boattail, but my co-ecomodder Darin will be gone soon racing his boat in a weeks-long international competition, so I wish him luck!
• Striving for 40 mpg in a Pontiac Vibe: A great thread talking about getting 40 MPG from the ground up!
• Class 8 trucks: Most of the time you see trucks flying down the highway you just want to get out of the way, but there’s a lot to learn about fuel economy and aerodynamics there

This is a new thing, but in the interest of getting a little bit more interaction between the forum and the blog, I thought I would start using Sundays to show off some of the forum highlights. Anyway, I’ll try to keep it interesting and not get too deep into the description, but if you’re interested, just click on through to join the discussion!

• Making a permanent Metro kammback: Darin has been working on this project for a while now, but it’s nearly done and promises some good results.
• DIY Moon Discs: An inventive and cheap way to clean up your car’s aero without buying caps or new wheels.
• iDuino MPGuino Update: It seems like the nice folks at Fundamental Logic may be making a custom set up for the MPGuino, which should pretty it up and make it more accessible.
• Smooth wheel covers tested: Some good testing done on the effects of smooth wheel covers on aerodynamics and fuel economy.
