It’s Bike to Work Week!

National Bike Month

If you haven’t heard yet, May is National Bike Month, and within the month there are a whole slew of specific “special days” and such. This week is one of those special bits, and it’s “Commute to Work Week.”

Luckily I’m still a student and don’t have any daily grind, commute to work type commute, but with the weather getting nicer and everything feeling more pleasant, I welcome with open arms the idea of being in the saddle for a few more hours every day. So, get out of the car and get a work out! It might be easier than you imagined.

Anyone new to commuting? Have any interesting stories?

I’,m opposed to all these “Do this thing for a day/week/month” deals but at least this one might serve to further expose problems with our infrastructure. Here in the greater Boston area there’s tons and tons of roads with potholes or other issues that greatly hinder their value to bikers. With all the extra bikers on the road this week, perhaps it’ll cause the issue to gain greater importance in public offices.

I don’t commute at the moment since I’ve been successfully unemployed for two months now but I did just buy a bike about a month ago for getting around town and love it. Reminds me of being a kid again and it feels like I’m actually independent and free now, where as driving was a chore and an imprisonment inside yet another little box.

I love cycling to work. I live in Oxford and am able to commute on a bike path by the River Thames. It’s quicker than the bus and helps you keep fit. It’s also good for the environment in many ways. I wish more people cycled to work the problem in Oxford is that there are so many buses I think it puts off other cyclists.

Nice blog btw
