Landon’s Vlog#1: preparing to live without a car

by peakster on January 26, 2008

Gas is over $4 a gallon. I’ve already downsized to a Geo Metro. I spend over $500 a month for my car. It’s time to do something about it!

Hi Andrew. Good luck with your resolution. I live in the USA and while I did not live without a car, I lived in a downtown apartment and walked about 3/4 miles each way to work. It was a real blessing as I could go back to my apartment for lunch (or a nap). I certainly enjoyed that situation. So moving closer to where you work would be one of my recommendations. Now that I think about it, I actually felt more free at that point in my life then when I did the morning commute.

how are you doing with your task…. being without a car. I think that you spent too much….10k and you had a geo metro??? that’s nuts!!! I am just wondering how you are doing with it.

Hey everyone. I’ve been doing very well living car-free now. I actually just bought my 3rd bicycle last Saturday for $5 and I’ve already put on 70 miles on it in just those few days! It’s unbelieveable how much money I saved. I only spent ~$230 on ALL of my expenditures for the month of June, so clearly going car-free has made me much richer!

I also got a job at a bank downtown in my city and commute everyday by bike (about 20-25 minutes each way), so it’s completely doable! I laugh when I watch this video because I look so scared: not knowing what it would be like. It’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!

Hi! I live in Germany and since i started to work for the last 7 months i have not driven a car, except for out of town trips. I use the train and bike to work and only spend €90 a month for monthly train ticket.
