Also on that sight is an image of a three wheeler somebody is building/built.
If you look close in the upper right, you can see that the back end is just a motorcycle with the engine and transmission left intact.
Add an electric motor up front, and you have a really nice poorman's hybrid, which DOESN'T need a complicated transmission!
