Aside from the fairings, there really isn't anything to remove. Plenty of things that can be lightened by exotic materials, but with a starting point of only 305lbs dry, there's not much room to improve.

And the assumption that re-gearing would endanger the rider is based on the false premise that you always need to have accelerating power a throttle-turn away, even on a highway where the chances of that are already slim. Fortunately, all NHTSA studies have shown that to be false, so we are free to gear our bikes to any ridiculous ratio we please, so long as it works for us.
