That sled reminded me of two things.
1) You can buy basically the same thing right now:
BRP Can-Am Spyder Roadster
I've seen a couple driving around.
2) There was recently a
converted snowmachine racing at Bonneville. There's a few more pics, including some in the pits, if you poke around on that site.
Combine the two and you'd have a fast, fun, efficient commuter.
