My Father just got a set of brake pads for Granny (I gave her to him) with a lifetime warranty... they said that they will not replace worn out pads under warranty anymore, unless they've come apart. We took the pads back when he told me that, then we went to the junkyard and pulled pads off other cars. Every pad we pulled was at least 90% fresh by measurement. They'll reseat to his rotors quickly.

In fact, I've done this so many times, I don't think I'm even going to buy pads anymore from retailers. I'll just keep pulling them from the junkyard for every car I come across that needs them, and pull 2-3 extra sets just in case.

I'd like to think that people might open their eyes at some point... instead, I find it more and more likely that I'll just close mine.
