The roof is doubly silly because light that passes through a solar panel is not absorbed by it. And how much thicker is it than a conventional roof? That increases frontal area. Solar roofs have always seemed like gimmicks to me. Just run my blower motor off the traction battery and let me plug in if I want to, thanks.
Btw, the Auris is not a new model. America and Japan get the Corolla, Europe gets the taller, more upscale Auris. Honda does something similar: the euro market Civic is different from the NA/Japan Civic, just like the Focus used to be.
