Changed the valve cover gasket. It went good, despite lots of bleeding from cuts.

When you turn the wheel all the way to one side, the pump is under heavy load (so much so my owner's manual recommends not to stay in this condition for more than 15 seconds
). The same for quick turning -- so have a friend turn the wheel, and watch
It may be useful to clean everything first, then use white tissues to wipe things down until you find red fluid
