Here is a shot of the actual pushrods I used. I picked them up at a local hobby store. They're made for radio control airplanes. By the time I had sanded mine down those ridges were completely gone on the grey pieces. I only sanded it down in the area of the bend.

Hey Daox, speaking as a model airplane modeller I wanted to make a quick mention about the pushrods you chose. They are known for expanding and contracting with temperature changes and can mess with the trim settings on your model. Your use of such a short run should minimize this tendency though. Great project!
