That is very possible. We knew a person could get into space before the first X-Prize was established. We also know things can be done to improve a cars efficiency before the current prize. If anything, it will just be a face for others to become more aware of the X-Prize competition.
I'm not sold on the fact that he could be running E85, yet. He won't let anyone even look at the engine, why would he give away the fuel he is using. Oh the suspense...
One thing is obvious...they drive nothing but Fords.
