Sure, all you need is a battery that will A) store enough energy for at least 250 miles of driving; B) recharge safely in 15 minutes or so; and C) not weigh so much that you're spending the lion's share of the energy hauling the battery. Then you can build an EV that will do what I need a car to do. Until then, hybrids offer the only practical path.
