If your goal is to extend your non A/C use, I would think that what's important is the average air temp in your car, in which case blocking/rerouting vents in recirc will change nothing.
They are currently running a set of articles at autospeed.com on new affordable electronic controllers they designed and now sell. It's interesting how using one of their module, one could use a thermistor to auto cycle their A/C.
