My experience with hook & loop Velcro (TM) is mixed.

You can glue or sew Velcro strip to anything, the local hardware store has supplies.

The glue on the store bought strips isn't going to be strong enough to get the job done (first hand experience), some sort of mechanical fastening (rivets/sewing) will be required.

I strongly favor the softer weaker strips over the large stiff ones. I cannot get the big hook & loops to work, and when they do engage they pop right out by themselves.

Go for the fuzzy soft ones, they are much more flexible as well.

You have a good idea, but the devil is in the details.

I had poor results with Velcro on my hovercraft skirt, much better results with zippers at the same task.

I hate the pop on snap buttons too, they hurt my fingers and have longevity issues.

Sketch something up, do a materials list, then price it out.

Let us know what you come up with.
