There has been no change in the longevity if the pipe. I have 20,000 miles now. I took me a few tries to find the right spot. Just drill a hole which lets the gas out after the cat but before the long skinny pipe. Measure back from the weld and drill up at a 45 degree angle so you don't even have to remove the pipe. Mine got a bit loud at full throttle so I would go with a slightly smaller hole.
