It does indeed plug in to the factory hole. My testing shows it to be little better than leaving the antenna base on the roof without anything in it (or in other words, it's pretty lousy), so I'm considering digging my factory antenna out of a box and stuffing the whole assembly under the dash somewhere to see if it's any better.
