My ski racks attach with magnets.
You can buy very strong magnets nowadays, i think that it would be a good attachment strategy.
If you add the thinnest bit of rubber under the magnet it will also stop it from sliding and grinding on the paint.
(Have not tried it but my ski racks that appeared to have big 40cm x 40 cm magnet pads that are slightly stronger than fridge magnets held up fine even at 180 kph).
