The owner of an 8th-gen Honda Civic told me he usually gets better mileage during rainy days, so even during cruise or light load a small mist of water might end up not being detrimental to fuel-efficiency.

The insite is a gasoline engine so to regeneration the NOx catalyst the ECU can just riches the air fuel mixture. The NOx will turn back to nitrogen and oxygen all on its own, eventually.

Eventually it would be worth trying to use some water injection instead of enriching the mixture, unless the regeneration process would rely on a slight increase of the unburnt HC emissions to light up inside the cat.
