Its one of those issues that only really exists in the forums. I don't know anybody who has actually had that issue. Many of my family and friends have chevy trucks and SUVs that have the 5.3L equipped with AFM.

My truck is at about 130k miles. I try to maximize my use of AFM. The compression and leakdown is the same between both cylinder banks last time I checked.

My dad has a 2012 silverado 1500 with the 5.3L engine and it has AFM. Neither of us have had a single problem with our trucks. My GF's dad has a 2016 silverado-- Also has AFM. Also has not had any problems.

I think these AFM horror stories get circulated because there are a couple melons out there that get all the attention. Then guys like dwtaylorpdx get on the forums and echo what they've read on other forums.

Or maybe certain driving habits bring on the issue more than others. My truck spends most of its time either damn near WOT, or cruising lightly because i'm trying to stay in V4 mode.
