A new model 2wd toyota pickup with the 5spd and a fuel injected 22re will get great fuel economy and you can get a lock box or customize a bedcap for security.
Im only staying with pickups because i assume you have alot of tools and the weight would be counter productive to a car and trailer in terms of cost and practicality.
