Now I'm wondering if the MPG gauge is actually present in the dash display (simple 1 line LCD screen), but simply unavailable without the steering wheel control to allow you to page through the various "screens".
There's a blank on the steering wheel where the display control buttons should be - I tried prying it out to see if the wheel is wired for the buttons, but it looks like I'd have to take the horn/airbag center out to be able to remove it.
Foiled again!
