And yes, by jove, the Mirage is nowhere near dangerously slow. Not compared to old eco-cars that took half-a-minute to hit the big six-oh.

Even the older i10s and Kia Picantos, with their lighter bodies, are not quite as efficient as the 1.2 Mirage, even considering the displacement difference.

The newer i10 and Grand i10 models are quite heavy. It's really no comparison.

But that said, the Hyundai is much, much more refined.

Then again, you don't buy an eco-car for refinement!

Real world fuel economy numbers for the 2007 to 2012 Hyundai i10.

1.0 lit 3 cyl engine plus 1.1 lit 4 cyl engine - 6.38 lit/100 km

1.2 l 4 cyl engine - 6.36 lit/100 km

It was not possible to separate out the 1.0 and 1.1 engines as they give the same power. However, looking at the raw data there does not appear to be much difference between them fuel economy wise.

The 1.2/1.25 engine has slightly better real world fuel economy compared to the 1.0/1.1.

Its 6.36 l/100km compared with 5.11 l/100km for the 1.2 Mitsubishi Mirage.

Some 24 % more thirsty!!
