I guess that's a matter of perspective and what you're used to. My first Focus was just under 2600 lbs. My Civic is just under 2300lbs. My Echo was another 200lbs lighter than the Civic. Heck, my Mustang weighed about what your Focus does.
Cars have just gotten fat in the last decade.

I still think the 1.0EB Focus and Fiesta are two of the neatest small cars we've gotten in the last 5-10 years.
