I say go for an EV.

A Taurus should have plenty of room for batteries. Not sure about the weight though or not.

You might want to check out the DIY Electric Car forum.
They have lots of good info on conversions on there.

In general, you want a car that is light enough, but still sturdy enough for carrying plenty of batteries.
