Here's a suggestion for you. Take both heads and CC the combustion chambers. Take the milled head and start to slightly open up the chambers with a die grinder until enough metal has been removed to CC it to near original. Did you try to retard the timing a degree or two? I don't know if there are any head gasket options for a thicker gasket. Good Luck.
