The diesels get blow-by oil and exhaust gas in the intake plenum and gunk it up. It is amazing that some of the VW diesels still run, they are so plugged up. I use a catch can and a tune that only introduces EGR during warmup so my car made it to 125,000 miles before I felt motivated enough to remove the intake and clean it out. It does seem to run better and smoother. My mpg is not up due to extended periods of 75 mph driving."
