Almost all city driving, but most commutes in are 15km each way. This fill up was using fuel for about 6 weeks. Last tank of summer fuel before the winter fuel is likely in place; I'm expecting slightly lower mileage for the coming tank.

A closer correction to get the SG better calibrated. I'm anticipating a fillup prior to my Thanksgiving trip;
hopefully this will finally get my Scanguage within a percent or two.

Distance reported by the SG is still under:

893km vs. 925.3km on the odometer.
38.3L expected at fill vs. 36.726L actual.

It's getting there! And still close to 3/8ths of a tank left, too.

This leg was the return trip to Edmonton from Brooks -- it was very hilly up highway 56!
And then, when home: 5 days of commuting to work and other places in and about Edmonton.

Combo fill in Brooks (same day)
I know I messed up the first fill, filling faster than normal,
and not pressing down the lever the second time to compensate.

BOY did that throw my ScanGuage way out of whack. I realized this after I pulled away from the pump, so I vowed to refill to the proper "full" point on the next fillup. Drove from Edmonton to Brooks, then Brooks to Medicine Hat, and back on these two legs.

Cruise speed varied between 80kph-110kph on the first leg, and 110-118kph on the second.
(Converted that's 55 to 73mph)

I'm very pleased that with sustained speeds at 65 and 70mph, I'm still getting half decent mileage!

My overall goal is 55mpg at a 70mph cruising speed.

It underreporting both the fuel consumed (partly due to my changing the calibration point from first fillup to second), AND more odd to me, the distance travelled: 948km versus 983.3km on the odometer. Planning a longer trip over next weekend, so I'll get more oportunities to check if I'm "calibrated" yet.

Drove like an idiot for one week of this, mostly the morning rush traffic while picking up a friend for a week to carpool.

Babied the tank to 159km past the fuel light coming on -- BAD idea. Had to refill the fuel filter when I fueled back up, to restart the car and reprime the pump. Thus, 140km past the Light coming on is the more realistic "safe" limit.

Note, at 55L, this wasn't the fullest the tank could be. I figure a full tank is closer to 62-65L

Yes, that means I'm paying more per gallon, equivalent:

484.86 mi / 13.4989 ga
$4.206/ga USD OUCH!
35.91 mpg

The fillup was WAY more expensive than normal... prices shot up 10c/L in two weeks

Caveats:

My MAF (Mass-air-fuel) sensor is toast... again. This likely means a 2-3mpg hit.

This includes an ice fishing trip where the car was idling (to keep warm!) for approximately 2-1/2 hours on a two day trip out to a derby. From TDIclub.com estimates on the forums, approximately 1-1/2 litres of fuel would've been burnt at idle for that time span.

Back of the envelope calculations yield... about 37 vs 35.91 mpg when the idling is removed, and closer to 39-40 if the MAF were working properly.

Once I transition jobs, it'll be time to order a new MAF -- with the price of fuel spiking upwards as it is for summer, I'll save the difference by year's end. Alas, given how short a time the last MAF lasted, this will mean that I'll have to get a new one by that time, too. :P

"De-carboned" the intake manifold. The car is now over 8 years old, and wasn't as plugged as some TDIs driven city are prone to, but it took me hours with brake cleaner and tools to scrape and dissolve the gunk in there. This happenned around the 750km mark, so it may have more of an effect the next tank or ten.

7/8ths of a tank, plus the breather room up top. Most expensive fill up cost I've had in recent memory, thanks to fuel-oil / diesel fuel supply competition.

Paid for MPG reading here for 2 reasons:
1) breakneck trip to Calgary on this tank (unknown loss here)
2) had to "eat" the aforementioned half gallon in the tank inconsistancy from previous fuel up. (2mpg "loss" here)

I think I shorted this tank, which will make things a bit screwy with this readout, and the last ... I think topping off the tank, I missed out on a half gallon/2L that I could've put in normally when I fill.

Bought at Shell in Brooks - drove rather aggressively, so this part tank didn't last as long (Right foot was the prime factor)
