Fill date Distance Fill amount Price MPG Details
2009-09-05 291 mi. 11.52 US gal $3.019 25.26 US Mystic Shell - Whitehall st.
2009-08-26 202.7 mi. 7.582 US gal 26.73 US carpool commuting to Pratt
2009-08-24 293.2 mi. 11.67 US gal 25.12 US Commuting to Pratt, carpooling with Frank P.
2009-04-10 225.7 mi. 10.37 US gal $2.299 21.76 US This tank includes the trip back from Putnam where Mike, Tony and I picked up Mike's love seat. Lousy aero on that trip - sofa on roof!
2009-02-26 246.1 mi. 10.55 US gal $2.159 23.33 US 89 octane as usual. In Putnam after a 70 mph run up there with Mike to pick up his sofa. Trip back down after fillup was at mostly 45-50 mph but the sofa was on roof so aero was terrible.
2009-01-28 173.2 mi. 7.887 US gal $2.019 21.96 US 89 octane as usual. Primarily a round trip to work in E. Htfd, then to a Westerly Dr.'s apptmt. after work. Snow on the way up, slush and freezing rain in the evening.
2009-01-10 257.7 mi. 11.78 US gal 21.88 US Four snow tires on Sven now.
Quite a few fillups have come and gone and I haven't logged them. I'm resuming logging fillups for this car now. The Volvo is mostly retired but I still use it for trips to Home Depot, rotten winter weather, and some other situations.
2008-11-06 221.2 mi. 7.865 US gal $2.559 28.12 US
2008-11-04 217.4 mi. 8.883 US gal $2.659 24.47 US
2008-11-02 221.6 mi. 11.2 US gal $2.499 19.79 US Sunday a.m. fillup in Westerly. had been doing home maint materials runs in the Volvo.
2008-10-22 248.5 mi. 11.08 US gal $2.999 22.43 US now mainly driving the Honda Civic HX
2008-09-26 297.5 mi. 11.82 US gal 25.17 US Last regular commuting fillup for Sven the Volvo 240. This was a Friday. The following Sunday I picked up the Civic from NH and commuted with it starting Monday 9/29.
2008-09-25 259.6 mi. 10.34 US gal 25.11 US
2008-09-24 257.5 mi. 10.11 US gal 25.47 US
2008-09-22 133.6 mi. 4.721 US gal 28.3 US
2008-09-20 246.8 mi. 11.07 US gal 22.29 US
2008-09-17 241.1 mi. 9.851 US gal 24.47 US 241.1 mi. includes the 2.5 miles added as noted in previous fillup
2008-09-13 284.7 mi. 12.1 US gal $3.799 23.53 US RI gas, lower prices. Zeroed odometer at 287.2. So next tank, add 2.5 miles to the odometer reading. This tank included plenty local trips including some rushed ones. Had a week off work between contracts, and rushed around getting James set up fixing the garage bldg.
2008-09-05 314.5 mi. 11.58 US gal $3.879 27.16 US
2008-09-02 313.9 mi. 11.73 US gal $3.879 26.76 US
2008-08-29 127.9 mi. 4.887 US gal $3.99 26.17 US 93 octane. As this was ~ 1/3 tank the tank is now at 89 octane approx. Also discovered tires at about 46-47 psi. Will air up to 52ish before next fillup.
2008-08-27 290 mi. 10.98 US gal $3.729 26.41 US
2008-08-22 32.3 mi. 1.411 US gal $3.739 22.89 US I didn't like the way the trip odometer was set - single-digit mile wheel was between two numbers. So I did an early topoff and reset it. OK now. Short tank included drive from work to Farmington, drive around to find used car lot, test drive Del Sol, then another false start looking for food/gas. So low mpg.
2008-08-22 268 mi. 9.905 US gal $3.759 27.06 US
2008-08-18 344 mi. 11.85 US gal $3.799 29.03 US Probably the first 87 octane fillup. Been using 89 till this point.
2008-08-13 305.9 mi. 11.19 US gal $4.059 27.34 US
2008-08-09 239.8 mi. 8.491 US gal $3.789 28.24 US Stop & Shop discounted price of $3.789.
2008-08-06 328.7 mi. 12.11 US gal $4.139 27.14 US 2-part fillup due to cash from carpool buddy Peter C.
2008-08-01 135.9 mi. 4.551 US gal $4.269 29.86 US Citgo on Silver La., E. Htfd.
2008-07-31 311.4 mi. 11.81 US gal $4.279 26.37 US 2-part fillup due to cash on hand from car pooling.
2008-07-25 230.5 mi. 8.155 US gal $4.299 28.26 US gas price dropped recently. This was at Citgo outside N.E. Utilities, my old work.
2008-07-22 320.8 mi. 10.96 US gal 29.27 US $4.399.
Fillup was a 2-part. 1 gal in Groton, the rest in E. Htfd at the lower price of $4.399
2008-07-16 282.1 mi. 9.274 US gal $4.299 30.42 US RI gas station, Valero. 21.4 mi. extra if I go via Rt. 2 from work and return via 216 to Exit 3 / I-95.
2008-07-14 65.4 mi. 2.93 US gal $4.539 22.32 US After RI fillup noted needle dropping rapidly. Not sure whether didn't fully fill as usual or driving with windows open wrecked it. Anyway, topped off to get a fresh start.
2008-07-13 243.2 mi. 8.837 US gal $4.319 27.52 US Road trip to RI with Jackie, US 1. Hot day, all windows open.
2008-07-09 247.2 mi. 9.739 US gal $4.459 25.38 US Two fillups combined so the 4.459 price won't multiply out precisely vs. total paid.
2008-07-04 155.3 mi. 6.023 US gal 25.78 US
2008-07-01 126.7 mi. 4.464 US gal 28.38 US Fillup immediately after first run with new carpool buddy. He drives it at 70, his wife drives it at 65. So I have to drive at those speeds to keep this carpool partner. We alternate cars every time we ride together. We plan for daily except Fridays as he only works M-F. His wife quit working.
2008-06-30 234.3 mi. 8.386 US gal 27.94 US P.M. fillup after being dropped off by carpool buddy after work.
2008-06-26 239.5 mi. 8.176 US gal 29.29 US Includes a stop for choir rehearsal and also some car pooling.
2008-06-24 182.6 mi. 6.248 US gal 29.23 US Fillup before last ride from old office location. Next morning drove to new office in East Hartford.
2008-06-23 276.6 mi. 10.13 US gal 27.31 US First day back to work after vacation. Car sat about 2 weeks unused. Tank includes local errand stuff to prepare for vacation.
2008-06-06 294.8 mi. 9.887 US gal 29.82 US 2 days solo commute plus one half-trip up with Peter C. All good conditions except one leg in strong rain.
2008-06-04 346.7 mi. 12.61 US gal 27.49 US
2008-05-30 209.3 mi. 7.133 US gal 29.34 US
2008-05-29 213.6 mi. 8.513 US gal 25.09 US 5/23 was the Friday before Memorial Day. 5/29 (Thurs) was my first day back to work after the long weekend and after waiting for the new contract to get an authorized P.O. Thus the six days without a fillup.
2008-05-23 254.7 mi. 8.38 US gal 30.39 US This tank entirely done with new gasket at exhaust manifold-to-downpipe joint. Had been leaking which sucks in raw air between exhaust puffs which fools the oxy sensor into thinking its running lean. Justin found the leak and fixed it. Had been noisy for several months.
2008-05-22 280.2 mi. 9.879 US gal 28.36 US
2008-05-19 314.5 mi. 11.17 US gal 28.16 US
2008-05-16 282.2 mi. 9.97 US gal 28.3 US
2008-05-13 252.8 mi. 9.063 US gal 27.89 US
2008-05-09 223.3 mi. 7.675 US gal 29.09 US
2008-05-08 266.8 mi. 9.364 US gal 28.49 US
2008-05-06 308.1 mi. 11.11 US gal 27.73 US
2008-05-02 289.8 mi. 10.94 US gal 26.49 US This tank and previous had rougher conditions. Rotten rain, headwinds, and faster speeds on some runs due to running late. Should have been up around 30 mpg if I could have gone 50-55 always on highways.
2008-04-29 273.7 mi. 10.49 US gal 26.09 US $3.89.9 price
2008-04-25 221.9 mi. 7.296 US gal 30.41 US (Fri) $3.799, Hess. Two days solo commuting. With my carpool rider I always do some compromising.
2008-04-24 296.5 mi. 10.82 US gal 27.4 US (Thurs) $3.819 Shell
2008-04-21 295.4 mi. 11.39 US gal 25.94 US (Mon) $3.739. 100 mi. of this was commuting. Rest was trip up from last fillup in NJ coming back with Jackie. Headwinds on road trip back from NJ and also home from work 4/21.
2008-04-20 128 mi. 5.341 US gal 23.97 US In NJ after trip to Phila. Lots of city driving, up hills, stop signs, you name it.
2008-04-20 246.2 mi. 8.853 US gal 27.81 US In NJ en route to Phila after Passover in Port Wash. Had a load of stuff for Marie. Jackie + me to NY, then with Marie to PA.
2008-04-18 217 mi. 7.24 US gal 29.97 US Big improvement. No changes to the car. Weather got a bit warmer. BUT I think that 4/15 the state of CT changed over to summer mix fuel. That would explain the 30 mpg tank. I hope that holds and improves over the summer.
2008-04-17 280.8 mi. 10.49 US gal 26.77 US
2008-04-15 272.1 mi. 10.21 US gal 26.65 US
2008-04-10 418 mi. 15.73 US gal 26.57 US (Thurs) $3.599/gal. Includes a partial fillup $16 cash carpool money 4/9, and 4/10 a full fill, total gallons 15.37. New carpool buddy pays me $8/day as I drop him off then continue another 25 min. to my job. He never drives me. He's a fuel-thrifty driver though, so doesn't mind me hypermiling at 55 or so. Then - not logged here yet - 1.282 gal topoff, 30.6 miles and I zeroed it. I did that right after I discovered I'd gone that distance with the fuel cap off! I'll roll that into my next regular fillup.
2008-04-07 323.9 mi. 12.01 US gal 26.97 US (Mon) $3.479/gal. Included first rides with car pooler John C.
2008-04-03 289.2 mi. 10.7 US gal 27.03 US Thurs) $3.459
2008-03-31 266.1 mi. 9.941 US gal 26.77 US Not a bad tank at all, considering it includes (2) 5-mile legs Jackie drove solo plus a couple other short hop weekend errands. Mid-tank, I completed the air dam with Lexan panels over the headlight cutouts. Had grill inserts in the new plywood grill panel (2nd version of plywood panel) for the entire tank.
2008-03-27 215.6 mi. 7.76 US gal 27.78 US Very clean commuting, no short trips. Mostly about 50-55 mph. It paid off.
2008-03-26 310.1 mi. 12.79 US gal 24.25 US Included weekend short errand, some 60 mph commuting and one hell bent for leather 70 mph trip home from work and then to choir rehearsal. That was an mpg killer.
2008-03-20 237.2 mi. 8.404 US gal 28.22 US 7-mi trip to store & then E. Htfd. to park at bus to go to peace vigil. Back to work again after. FE killer but needed to be done. 3.20 trip home had strong tailwinds; that's what saved the tank.
2008-03-19 277.1 mi. 10.93 US gal 25.35 US
2008-03-14 330.8 mi. 12.45 US gal 26.57 US This was actually 2.504 gal on the way to work and 9.949 gal on the way home. I wanted to fill up in a.m. but they were charging highway robbery prices for the Shell I use. $.20 less when I filled up at my usual station on the way home. That's $3.459 for 89 octane - ouch.
2008-03-12 301.4 mi. 11.41 US gal 26.42 US
2008-03-07 250 mi. 9.74 US gal 25.67 US Last tank had a lot of rainy drives. Did mostly about 50 on the highway. This tank, some 50ish, but a lot around 60. Can't drive so slow all the time with a 60 mi. commute. Tank also included a stop on the way home and a lunch errand to E. Htfd., that was about 15 mi. with 2 stops. Still, just under 26 mpg for the tank so 'twas decent.
2008-03-05 319.2 mi. 11 US gal 29.02 US Yeee ha! Terrific tank. Weather has warmed to the 40-55 F range and I think the computer finally figured out how to handle the new exhaust system (installed Sat. 2/23 after months of a leaky system). Last 2-3 fillups were at Shell, Salem Four Corners. Maybe they sell better Shell than the other stations I've been using?
2008-03-03 110.5 mi. 5.418 US gal 20.39 US Horrible tank. Just weekend driving, short errand trips with plenty cold starts etc.
2008-02-29 238.3 mi. 9.411 US gal 25.32 US Two days commuting. Trips up, 60-65 highway with some drafting. Trips back, more like average 55. Trip is too long to do it at 50-55. Takes 1 hr 15 min. even at 60-65. Includes a good stretch of city driving in East Hartford - probably about 10-12 lights.
2008-02-27 283.4 mi. 11.25 US gal 25.19 US Very good for winter driving with four snows. Can't wait for summer!
2008-02-25 102.6 mi. 4.135 US gal 24.81 US Gas gauge showed it looked like a low-FE tank. Filled early to see how it was doing. Not so bad. 102.6 includes the added 2.8 miles from prev. tank. Finally figured out, I think it was the 'puter responding to new exhaust piping. Went open loop for a while, probly rich. Intake air temps were 25-30 deg. higher than normal for the first 40 mi. or so. Finally went back to like before, maybe a hair warmer.
2008-02-22 241.6 mi. 9.359 US gal 25.81 US Add 2.8 mi. to next tank as I zeroed this one late. It's getting to be a habit. Tank consists of two runs to new job in So. Windsor CT. One day in snow both ways and one day had a lunch errand to E. Htfd.
2008-02-21 64.7 mi. 3.608 US gal 17.93 US Filled up before new job's commute run. As I recall the tank was all short trips. Exhaust getting leakier too. Replaced exhaust (cat-back) after this fillup.
2008-02-18 246.6 mi. 10.91 US gal 22.6 US Includes the 3 mi. to be added as previous tank was zeroed late.
2008-02-08 274.3 mi. 11.18 US gal 24.53 US Add 3.0 miles to the NEXT tank's odo reading as I zeroed this one late.
2008-02-05 282.9 mi. 10.81 US gal 26.17 US
2008-02-01 192.4 mi. 8.64 US gal 22.27 US
2008-01-25 251.7 mi. 10.07 US gal 25 US Trip to New London, then Jewett City and back. Next trip to N.L., then So. Windsor, Jewett City, New London, home. I was pretty thrifty with gas. It paid off.
2008-01-23 229.8 mi. 10.78 US gal 21.32 US Included shortish trips to Stgtn borough, starting in ~15 deg. weather and again to return home. Other similar short stuff.
2008-01-15 116.2 mi. 4.276 US gal 27.17 US Trip to Htfd, NU / Berlin and back. More like my previous commute than the other driving I've done since 11/2/07. However as the stops were only for 1-2 hours the engine never really did cool down. Did well!
2008-01-14 186.4 mi. 8.292 US gal 22.48 US After previous fillup I didn't reset trip odo till I'd driven 1 mile (exactly). So this 186.4 INCLUDES the +1 mile correction.
2008-01-08 272.8 mi. 11.68 US gal 23.36 US Drove 1 mile after filling before resetting odometer. So at next fillup give it one more mile than shown on odo.
2008-01-01 235.8 mi. 10.32 US gal 22.85 US 235.8 10.329 3.459
2007-12-23 270.7 mi. 10.96 US gal 24.7 US Doing better. Not sure why. Maybe ECU finally got back on it's feet after disconnecting power when I restored the air intake temp control system. Included a trip to RI I-95 exit 8 (about 30-35 mi each way) but also included the usual bunch of local short hops.
2007-12-15 257.9 mi. 11.12 US gal 23.19 US First tank driven entirely with restored airbox heater mechanism. Mostly short trips but one 70 mph trip to Middletown to help Matt S. move boxes. Fill was after move in Middletown. Included short city runs in M'town to/from storage.
2007-12-04 253.9 mi. 10.639 US gal 23.87 US Trip to Hartford and back (total ~150 mi), plus local stuff after that.
Had to climb to 8th level in Htfd. parking lot - a real FE killer.
2007-11-29 266.8 mi. 10.908 US gal 24.46 US Restored airbox temp control system before this fillup. System still needs tweaking. IAT now 55-60 generally, occasionally as high as 70 puttering around town. One leg back from E. Berlin, the rest local stuff.
2007-11-24 218.1 mi. 8.546 US gal 25.52 US Local + New Haven and back (~100 miles) + trip to E. Berlin, CT (55 mi). The three long legs were with Jackie and/or Marie.
2007-11-19 294.3 mi. 12.866 US gal 22.87 US All local driving as I was out of work the entire period.
This was the "hypertank" challenge.
I last filled up on Wed. 11/9.
Challenge was to see how long we could stretch a tank of gas.
This was 89 octane, a switch from my previous 93 octane.
2007-11-07 293.1 mi. 11.305 US gal 25.93 US Zeroed the odo about 2-3 miles late after fillup. Next tank, adjust this one and the next tank one. The 293.1 is more than the actual tank miles.
2007-11-02 170.6 mi. 6.24 US gal 27.34 US Last commute trip to Berlin, CT.
Probably last high test 93 octane.
Next likely 89.
2007-10-31 202.4 mi. 6.938 US gal 29.17 US
2007-10-30 297.6 mi. 11.996 US gal 24.81 US Some fast trips here. Home from work with kidney stone! Also weekend errands.
2007-10-26 258.2 mi. 9.642 US gal 26.78 US Idled to jump start a friend. An revved hard several times just to enjoy it. Oops. Paid at the pump for that. Also ran the heat a bit. Sucks the heat right off the engine.
2007-10-24 258.75 mi. 8.999 US gal 28.75 US Shell 93 octane. First time using Shell.
2007-10-22 164.05 mi. 5.909 US gal 27.76 US
2007-10-19 278.4 mi. 9.783 US gal 28.46 US
2007-10-17 269.75 mi. 9.215 US gal 29.27 US This is the 2nd fillup of 93 octane high test. Still on summer RFG; changeover is in Nov. sometime. Tires pumped higher too - approx 44/42 front/rear.
2007-10-15 172 mi. 6.263 US gal 27.46 US includes weekend errands and CHILLY temps - dipped to about 32 deg. F.
2007-10-12 242.2 mi. 8.296 US gal 29.19 US
2007-10-10 120.5 mi. 4.106 US gal 29.35 US Better mpg this time.
I drove slower - especially to work in a light rain. Looks like that's a good formula.
2007-10-09 319.45 mi. 11.885 US gal 26.88 US Must have been driving too fast...
Also included weekend short trips and a lunch drive on 10/8, Columbus day - cafeteria was closed.
2007-10-05 196.6 mi. 6.571 US gal 29.92 US Three commute legs plus the tail end of trip home from Syracuse after final trip fillup.
2007-10-03 37.6 mi. 1.769 US gal 21.25 US Syracuse local driving. Filled up before leaving for home in CT.
2007-10-03 289.05 mi. 9.564 US gal 30.22 US Highway trip Syracuse to Mystic CT. Actually filled up 20 mi. before Mystic in Norwich. Drove mostly between 60-65, however as slow as 50 and as fast as 80. A couple episodes of WOT.
2007-10-02 225.05 mi. 7.385 US gal 30.47 US Actually late 10/1, but I want it to show up sequentially on the Gaslog. Tank started on Mass Pike westbound, ended in Syracuse. Pretty sure I had a good tailwind the whole way. Also a quick drive following Ken to dinner on small roads, acceleration + braking and long stretches below 40 mph hurt there. So the ~30.5 mpg has some overall validity.
2007-10-01 181.2 mi. 6.998 US gal 25.89 US Home from work, 17 mi. weekend errands, then first leg of drive to Syracuse. All driven with new front grill panel installed; I'd put it on before leaving work. Also includes some weekend errands. Hopefully this will be good long term.
2007-09-28 122.6 mi. 4.29 US gal 28.58 US Stopped for a show at Ivoryton Playhouse on the way home. Then it rained from Ivoryton to Mystic.
2007-09-27 237.8 mi. 7.964 US gal 29.86 US Good clean commutes. Stops at All Souls for choir reh. and a quick lunch trip to Home Depot for contact cement for NEW FRONT FACE [still in progress, not yet installed]. Even with the two short trips, came in just under 30, NICE!
2007-09-25 205.9 mi. 7.242 US gal 28.43 US Still only in mid-28's. "Old" air dam reinstalled but this tank includes Sunday trip to church and a stop there for a meeting Monday p.m. Plus a WOT burst on trip home Monday, something to do with testosterone and a Chevy pickup passing me on a hill. He came from behind, I went WOT, he passed me by a nose, then I passed him. All on a Rte. 9 upgrade. I got up to about 80.
2007-09-22 260.2 mi. 8.304 US gal 31.33 US NY trip. 50-60 mph. Had some traffic and some small roads plus a food stop each way. Left directly from work so the distance was shorter than from home. Odd price due to I bought 89 and 93 octane and split the difference.
2007-09-21 121.2 mi. 4.229 US gal 28.66 US
2007-09-20 179.8 mi. 6.059 US gal 29.67 US OK, fessing up here.
This tank is actually three small fillups.
Done after replacing rad and upper rad hose.
Also swapped in 2.5 qt synthetic trans fluid about 1/3 way into the "tank".
A guy has to have a way to check FE in detail when ScanGauge is not possible. One leg clocked at 34.4, one at 31.8, and the worst was 10.3, a short leg to band rehearsal and then to fill .997 gallons~10 miles afterwards on the way home. So things are looking up.
2007-09-19 134.2 mi. 5.107 US gal 26.28 US Upper rad hose leak. This tank included idling to warm to test after replacing hose and radiator plus a spirited drive to test for leaks. Also included a zippy drive home from work to pick up the hose before FCP Groton closed.
2007-09-18 255.5 mi. 9.785 US gal 26.11 US Replaced heater hose to head during this tank. Thus two stretches of idling till fully warmed up to test system. Next will replace upper rad hose, tonight. Possibly will replace radiator also.

2007-09-14 124.7 mi. 4.479 US gal 27.84 US pretty quick trip home from work yesterday.
Still hampered by missing front grill + block treatment. Getting cooler too.
2007-09-13 276.9 mi. 9.398 US gal 29.46 US front grill removed some time ago for upgrade. Aero nightmare.
2007-09-11 204.4 mi. 7.065 US gal 28.93 US
2007-09-07 236.2 mi. 7.882 US gal 29.97 US Front "grill" disassembled - working on new one.
No grill, no grill block due to runs hot if I put in the blocked grill.
2007-09-05 294.8 mi. 10.484 US gal 28.12 US Includes weekend errands (Labor Day weekend) and a FAST run from work to Waterford to podiatrist's office at avg. speed 65 mph.
2007-08-31 235.5 mi. 7.595 US gal 31.01 US
2007-08-29 310.6 mi. 10.897 US gal 28.5 US weekend + a weekday off for intervew and local errands. At end of tank, topped up tire pressure to 43/41 hot.
2007-08-24 246.5 mi. 8.441 US gal 29.2 US
2007-08-22 246 mi. 8.064 US gal 30.51 US Stopped at ASUUC on way home, stopped @ Dr. Yolen and McDonalds on way to work.
2007-08-20 342.9 mi. 11.871 US gal 28.89 US got lost going to J's Beauty & Beast show, trips to and stops at church, drove to work pretty quick mon. am 8/20.
2007-08-16 262.8 mi. 8.242 US gal 31.89 US 4 commute legs on rte 9.
1 stop at Monro Muffler, 1 trip to band rehearsal followed by a jaunt to Stgtn and back. Decent FE at 31.88 mpg.
2007-08-14 210 mi. 6.673 US gal 31.47 US Had the rear Kamm back on the whole tank. Results: a mixed bag. Some good clear-roads runs. One had rain. One had an accident on the Glastonbury bridge; traffic crawled. I'd kill the ICE and after 10-20 sec. I'd need to start again, only to move a few car lengths. Decent, a hair under 31.5 mpg for the tank.
2007-08-10 216.1 mi. 7.441 US gal 29.04 US Arrrghghghgh! Several short trips needed due to broken side glass on wagon - slid on wet road. Then rainy days also took their toll, tank was 29.04 mpg. Last tank for this FE Challenge.
2007-08-09 243.8 mi. 7.479 US gal 32.6 US Two commute cycles. One leg up in rain. Last 3 legs on Rte 9, P&G betw. 50-60. Good results! All four legs with temp coroplast rear spoiler/Kamm back thing.
2007-08-07 136.9 mi. 4.343 US gal 31.52 US Added shortie Kamm back AFTER this fillup.
Here's hoping!
2007-08-06 195.1 mi. 6.316 US gal 30.89 US Home via? 9 or 2? Sat a.m. swapped in Kumho AS 795's on rear. Sat a 20-mi run, then ~3 mi home from Monk visit. Sun to church + back. Decent at just under 31 mpg.
2007-08-03 130.4 mi. 4.352 US gal 29.96 US Filled 89 octane @ Citgo. AM: 3 errand stops then Rte 9 to work. PM: cops pulled out in front of my Rte 2 traffic and bogged us for 5-10 min @ ~5-10 mph. Recent days w/straight commute 32.2-4, this day with 3 stops 30 mpg, not toooo bad.
2007-08-02 138 mi. 4.294 US gal 32.14 US Filled up w/ valero 93 octane, drove Rte 2 both ways
2007-08-01 283.8 mi. 8.757 US gal 32.41 US I think I'm finally out of the woods with various vehicle malfunctions. This past Sunday I did a significant rebuild of the temporary air dam, and have had no significant failures since. Yesterday evening I did need to add a flexible wallboard corner bead on the right side section where I had not put one earlier, including 3 screws to secure it.
2007-07-30 285.5 mi. 9.702 US gal 29.43 US Still on 91 octane, price has dropped. Tank incl. one leg at 65-70 mph with near-catastrophic air dam failure, with coroplast dragging severely on pavement. Nicely repaired before last commute leg.
2007-07-26 256.8 mi. 8.097 US gal 31.72 US Tires pumped up about 4 lb before last leg up to work so future tanks should be a bit better than this one. I think I've gotten past most of the known issues. Still need to check on drivers side motor mount and retape the air dam AGAIN. Painting it loosened some tape, dang.
2007-07-24 134.7 mi. 4.678 US gal 28.79 US Mid-tank found cracked hose at t/b end of plastic vacuum tube. Replaced. FE still not back up where expected, should be around 31-33 by my reckoning.
2007-07-23 160.5 mi. 5.354 US gal 29.98 US Fri pm home, Sat am retaped air dam bottom + firmed up angle on grill block coroplast. 40 mi. drive to RI and back, 2 stops for food. Mon am to work. 29.98 mpg is lousy, dunno why the drop. Just going too fast maybe.
2007-07-20 137.7 mi. 4.421 US gal 31.15 US Included Middletown lights traffic, 10 mi. in brutal rain + another 20 mi in regular rain + 25 mi. with Jackie's open windows. Still 31 mpg! Coroplast "NASCAR" air dam must be a good one - either that or it's the new tires.
2007-07-19 400 mi. 13.12 US gal 30.49 US Entirely on new tires, mostly on new temporary coroplast air dam (large). Some errands and a fast trip to Helmut's fundraiser in Ledyard.
2007-07-16 209.1 mi. 7.019 US gal 29.79 US Built new temporary coroplast airdam. Tank incl. nasty Fri. p.m. traffic @ Glastonbury Br., several local errands for first aid stuff, air dam removal @ Justins, high speed road testing of new one. New air dam segment was 34.32 mpg! Gotta watch that duct tape, it slides down and also one underpanel stiffener came loose.
2007-07-13 130.2 mi. 4.16 US gal 31.3 US Home via Rte 160 + 3 + 2. A.M. got 2 new front tires installed in E. Lyme after false start at City Tire. Then up to work. Leg to work on new tires was 40.2 mpg! Straight hiway, all warmed up, but still super!
2007-07-12 278.4 mi. 9.162 US gal 30.39 US Some issues:
Flat tire (L-F), changed on 395 Montvill connector, drove on 1 snow tire 3 legs.
Cooling system still not holding pressure after changing 2 hoses. WTF?
Shopping for tire before work & at lunch.
Ordered from TireRack, not yet here.
2007-07-10 152.6 mi. 4.775 US gal 31.96 US Includes lunch errand to bank in Cromwell. 2 commute legs Rte 2.
2007-07-09 187.4 mi. 6.204 US gal 30.21 US Fri. pm + Sat am Rte 2.
Found lower rad hose s-l-o-w leak @ rad or 1st temp sensor, need to fix.
Also incl. weekend idling after opening / refilling cooling system for R&R 1" hose to reservoir.
2007-07-06 275.8 mi. 8.95 US gal 30.82 US Some light rain.
Some 15 mph winds.
Mostly I behaved myself and used Rte. 9 for all.
2007-07-03 123.9 mi. 4.149 US gal 29.86 US many stops for errands
2007-07-02 149.6 mi. 5.043 US gal 29.66 US 60 mi. on busted motor mount.
Then fixed mount on Sat. and also replaced upper ground strap.
34.6 mpg on leg to work Mon. a.m.!
2007-06-29 252.9 mi. 8.119 US gal 31.15 US Mixed bag. 2 legs Rte 9, 2 legs Rte 2. One leg up drafting 3/4 of the way @ 52, one leg down met Jackie + she had windows open the whole time. Overall decent. Would have been super without stop for the Nunsense show + JCP's open windows.
2007-06-27 126 mi. 3.926 US gal 32.09 US Rte 9 down, Rte 2 up to work
2007-06-26 253.9 mi. 7.597 US gal 33.42 US Did tranny and coolant flush over the weekend. Rte. 2 Mon. p.m. + Tue. a.m., otherwise Rte. 9.
2007-06-22 244.4 mi. 8.018 US gal 30.48 US
2007-06-20 128.7 mi. 4.107 US gal 31.34 US I behaved myself. Lunch errand, car wash.
2007-06-19 115.7 mi. 3.599 US gal 32.15 US Straight commute, no errands, limiting to 2000-2100 rpm except on downhill accel where I still was very conservative.
2007-06-18 212.4 mi. 7.189 US gal 29.55 US Back on the wagon again. ~29.5 even with 90+ mi. of typical errand/social runs this weekend. Likely the two commute legs would have been over 31.
2007-06-15 251.9 mi. 8.933 US gal 28.2 US Tank incl. two rehearsals + a lunch errand. Driving faster too, and temps down a bit.
2007-06-13 138.3 mi. 4.287 US gal 32.26 US Reset ECU after previous fillup. First full non-rain tank after tuneup. Choir and a stop at True Value Mystic.
2007-06-12 116.1 mi. 3.914 US gal 29.66 US Some heavy rain on trip home. 1 errand stop + 1 stop to wait for rain to end. Pulled, cleaned and reinserted ECU fuse after this fillup.
2007-06-11 102.7 mi. 3.851 US gal 26.67 US Short weekend errands, then tuneup, then to work.
2007-06-09 64.8 mi. 2.211 US gal 29.31 US Included lunch errand with long parked period before returning.
2007-06-08 163.6 mi. 4.902 US gal 33.37 US Mixed bag driving. Fast home, slower back 2 wrk. Washed engine bay + rough starts/stalls after, cleaned up w/6K rpm + grill removal. Behaved myself up to wrk after that.
2007-06-07 237.7 mi. 7.416 US gal 32.05 US 2 days commute, Rte 9 only. Consistent P&G 50-60-70. Tires 37-38 psi cold.
2007-06-05 133.6 mi. 4.418 US gal 30.24 US Rte 2. FAS between 48-60. I expected better; rte 9 with faster FAS gave at least as good and only 115.x miles r/t.
2007-06-04 111.2 mi. 3.724 US gal 29.86 US Exit 62 rest stop (after NY trip) for gas to home + All Souls + back, then to work in light rain. Moderate Middletown light delays.
2007-06-02 307.2 mi. 10.222 US gal 30.05 US NY trip. Incl ~5 mi 10-20 mph on Cross Isl Pky + 25A to PW + Me + Jackie + mom + dad to dinner in Manhasset + back. Still a solid 30 mpg.
2007-06-01 139.8 mi. 4.533 US gal 30.84 US Up home via 9, up via 2. PM stop at Goodwill Middletown + Groton, dinner @ Margaritas. Doing more P&G lately.
2007-05-31 115.3 mi. 3.602 US gal 32.01 US First fillup following completion of Stage III of air dam extension. Includes forward belly pan to front axles and wrap to fender's wheel cutout.
2007-05-30 201.1 mi. 7.1 US gal 28.32 US Fri p.m. Rte 2 etc. Then weekend, next leg Wed a.m. Rte 2 etc. Air Dam Stage 3 done over weekeend so Wed a.m. w/ that done.
2007-05-25 234 mi. 7.624 US gal 30.69 US Friday fillup.
Removed side wings from the in-progress air dam expansion.
Seems to glide better now.
Also accelerates better, at highway speeds.
2007-05-23 365.2 mi. 12.579 US gal 29.03 US Just completed a Seafoam treatment including high-pm driving afterwards to blow out the junk. Rough idle seems to have improved but is not gone. Seafoam in the tank too so cleaning of injectors contined during this tank just completed.
2007-05-20 105.2 mi. 4.742 US gal 22.18 US combines two fillups of 45.3 mi/2.207 g (May 20) + 59.9 mi/2.535 g (May 18)

2007-05-08 271.3 mi. 9.854 US gal 27.53 US faster now, about 2200 rpm usually.
Some pretty fast pulses too. And short weekend trips that killed FE.
2007-05-04 117.2 mi. 4.032 US gal 29.07 US both legs @ 5200 rpm, more spirited pulses kept me at 50 and above.
