This trip included a trip to the Tijuana Airport from El Monte, starting with about 15/16th's of a tankful. Spent lots of time idling at the border on the way back. Total time spent at the border was 2hrs, but I think I only used up about 1/16th tank worth of gas idling in line. There was also stop-and-go traffic during the first 8 miles of highway driving. I had the A/C on for most of the trip. On the way there because it was warm, on the way back because I needed it to help keep me awake. Overall I'm pretty happy with the results, I think that a more ideal highway trip would net even better results without all the stop and go, the idling in place and the a/c running most of the time. Best of all, I didn't pay for this tank of gas because I was driving someone to the airport and they paid.

Most of the last 1/4 of this tank were highway miles, though the car was loaded with about 100lbs or more of firewood, a 150lb passanger, and probably another 100lbs of gear that are not normally in the car. It appears that even with the excess weight, this car's highway mileage is much better than it's city mileage. Also, the car's lowered stance and behind-the-grille grille block is probably helping some too while I'm at highway speeds.

Same as above except started using brakes minimally by using 2nd and 1st gear to slow me down when I'm approaching an amber or red, or when i see traffic slowing down up ahead. This has also made it easier to "creep up" on reds and get to the intersection just as it turns green or minimizes how much time i spend waiting for the green.

Cleaned MAF and TB, added lucas transmission treatment, added lucas fuel system treatment, put my K&N filter back in (I swapped in a paper filter in January for SMOG testing). Still using my modified version of Pulse/Glide whenever safe to do so. Only about 50-75 miles of this trip were highway miles. I've now started to brake early when approaching red lights, if I can do so safely, to avoid coming to a complete stop so often as many times they'll turn green before I reach the intersection.

Mostly just using the vacuum gauge and tach as guide. Learned that my AT doesn't shift into high gear until 38-40mph under light throttle, so I believe that 40-50mph is probably my best range. At first I was driving too slow sometimes, at about half tank I started playing with a modified version of pulse and glide. I pulse up to 5mph above my desired average mph for a stretch of road, then pop it in neutral until I'm 5mph under, repeat. I don't turn off the engine because my power steering and brakes become really heavy and one time the engine wouldn't start back up again while coasting at 55mph in neutral, I had to pull over to the shoulder and put the shifter in park and put the key all the way in the off position before it would start again. At about half tank I noticed that my MAF sensor is a bit on the dirty side, but I left it alone, I will be cleaning it tomorrow now that I have a new tankful.
