This was a modified car for high performance use. It used to have a twin side draft equipped A15 engine [bored out to 1608cc's]. It was fast but only got 25 mpg. My car club put on an economy run event and I removed the 1.6 and built a high compression, but otherwise stock 1397cc A14 engine for it and was able to get 61.53 mpg the first time out. There is a thread about it HERE.
Current Mods:
'80 Datsun 210 "mpg" cylinder head on the original '77 A14 block. This gives a 10.75 to 1 compression ratio. Pacestter header flows into a mandrel bent 2" exhaust system with free flow mufflers [2 of them in line, I want a quiet but efficient car].
Planned Mods:
Add coroplast belly pan. Lower suspension. Change 3.70 final drive to 3:54. Change 175/70R13 tires to 155/80R13's. Smooth wheel covers. Remove triple row cast steel crank pulley for a lighter single row unit. Replac stock 35 lb. battery with a lightweight 13 lb. motorcycle battery.
