So I replaced the rusted out resonator and muffler over the weekend. The car is MUCH QUIETER NOW,

I drove to work this morning and my MPG jumped to 61.2 MPG?! My previous best commute to work was 55.6 mpg.

I did use the kill switch a couple times during the commute, but not enough to total a 5.2 mpg gain.

I wonder if a broken exhaust greatly affects mpg?

**SIDE NOTE: I discovered there is a rear sway bar installed too!**

Lol, now that the car is quieter, more and more rattles are starting to appear. I'll have to track those down.

The exhaust will effect mpg.

However...

You'll be surprised how much is saved with that kill switch.

10% is easy. 55.6 mpg x 1.1 = 61.16mpg

Shut the engine off when ever possible. You can easily bump start in 5th gear as slow as 5-6 mph.

Add a remote start switch also.


You should add a cardboard engine blanket to your list of mods. It costs nothing, shortens warm up and retains the heat in the engine bay so the car does not drop back into open loop when parked for short periods of time.


The little things add up.

Yeah, my morning commute is stop-and-go traffic, so there are not a lot of opportunities to use the kill switch. Therefore, the only change from last week to this week was the replacement exhaust that achieved 10% in FE.

I can't wait to see what this Geo can do in warm weather, aeromods, and free-flowing traffic.

Tested out the kill switch for a bit today.

It seems as though the clutch is completely worn out because coasting around 10mph, 5th gear, i am completely OFF the clutch pedal for at least half a second for the car to bump start back on.

For my old Del Sol and Sti, the car would bump start as soon as the clutch grabs (about 1/4 pedal travel).

Thoughts? Is my clutch shot?

Hydraulic clutch? Maybe the slave cylinder is sticking a bit?

Will the larger 4-pot clutch work on the three-cylinder car? I'm wondering if the heavier weight might smooth that little engine out just a tad.
