281 mpge at 70 mph and 1,000 miles in 24 hours

Terry Hershner completed an Iron Butt 1000 miles in 24 hours on his Vetter streamlined electric Zero motorcycle at average speeds over 70 mph and energy consumption at the rate of 281 mpge.

1989 firebird mostly stock. Aside from the 6-speed manual trans, corvette gen 5 front brakes, 1LE drive shaft, 4th Gen disc brake fbody rear end.
2011 leaf SL, white, portable 240v CHAdeMO, trailer hitch, new batt as of 2014.

But you can get 50 amps of 240 volt power, which gives you 12kw.

So is the class system based purely voltage or is there an implied wattage limit too?

Then is that voltage single or 3 phase?
If its single phase is it line to line power or line to neutral?
If its 3 phase is it delta or "wye" configured?

You can push 70 amps at level 2, why are they running at such a low output?
