Speedbrake, air brake, #drag-onbaby

Ive been thinking about this for a while, and finally drawing up the plans. Simplest for me would be a rod attached to hinged spoiler fin, raise and lower at will. Most exciting would be compressed air lines and a piston doing all the work. Similar to the spoilers on a 747's wing etc.

You won't get much braking.

You will slow down if you're on level ground, but I wouldn't put much faith in any aerobrake going downhill... not unless it's parachute shaped. And even then, it'll need to be a big parachute.

I have often wanted aerodynamic brakes like Knight Rider. Hey Aerohead, whta affect would all of this have?


I thought the trunk lifted up but it kind of looks like it somehow rotates up. If so it would improve the taper.

However badly I hated the Knight Rider reboot... you can't deny that the original was cheesy as hell.

Viper had a better "alternate" mode:



Also a terrible show, but with a much, much nicer car.

At 'normal' highway speeds,it would offer very little benefit.
If you're flat out in a Bugatti Veyron,that's another story.
I like Frank's idea of trying to capture kinetic energy with a 5th-wheel.

Gardenedging, welcome to ecomodder. Now you know everybody's favorite childhood TV shows.

But, since you ask; depending on how you hinge it it will be hard to open and easy to close, or else easy to open and hard to close. The energy needed will scale with the energy the brake will dissipate. Unless it rotates longitudinally or something.
