Someone gave me a "manly"-smelling candle for Christmas. I said that it was perfect for the bathroom, which was where I had my last candle a decade ago, but this one is in a holder, so it will not burn down to the linoleum and render me homeless again--hopefully.

If not, I could always take a stick of Old Spice, remove the plastic screw in the middle, drop in spring, and then fill the gap with wax...

Doug, always good to learn something new, and I didn't know that about the synthetic oils being worse than petroleum oils for leaving slicks on the lake. I think the some of the early high-mix-ratio oils (40:1, 50:1) were petroleum oils with a lot of "bright stock" which is, as I recall, an anti-scuff additive that permits use of those "lean" mixtures.

Yamaha TDR 180 made only in Brazil, fitted with the very same engine from the DT 180 in order to circumvent local content laws

I owned a Yamaha Daytona Special. Which was really an RD400 with some racing mods. Loved the bike, but it was hard to ride in traffic with such a narrow power band. I recall replacing the pistons on a regular basis. According to the Manual, they needed to be replaced every 3500 miles:-().

My first bike was an RD400 as well. And yes, I replaced the pistons a couple of times. I got tired of the constant attention it needed. I have a dislike of carbs and points because of it. Too bad it hadn't been a year younger, because that's when they went to electronic ignition.

It went like a bad out of hell when it was running right.

I don't have such a dislike for carburettors, but the older ignitions are a PITA compared to the electronic ones.

These do work! It makes all the dead Photobucket photos alive again, so you can view them as usual. It works only for the computer that has it installed, and doesn't fix the thread itself.




I posted some pictures of my Derbi GPR earlier in this thread, and wanted to toss in an updated photo -



With my oldest boy aboard -



Factory 75cc stroker with a Mikuni Flatslide and an Arrow chamber. It's just a hoot to ride, and once it's rolling it does pretty well. Tops out about 80 from what I can tell.

Coated the wheels and a few other pieces. Getting ready to pull the swingarm and coat it after shaving the tabs for the chainguard.

This Derbi looks so small. This in turn might lead it to be funny to ride on mountain roads.
