I got these five Marathons at the NW Bug Run for $25 each.

When the money shows up I want to powder-coat them black and then paint the spokes woodgrain with a silver ring, like this:

That's not a bad idea at all.

Also looking at the pictures of the carbon ceramic brake rotor material it appears to be an almost ideal black body. It should have a very high emissivity. Unlike a shinny steel rotor.

The price on these has come down in recent months, from $3,000 to 3,600 down to $2,400.
Still crazy expensive.

I wish carbon rotors were more common, the benefits seem great, less weight better braking. I'd love be to have carbon rotors on my truck, the hills around here tear up rotors. We had a Nissan Armada and I bet we went through 4 sets of rotors in 100k miles.

I have to guess that the problem might well be your driving style. Hereabouts we have actual mountains. I drive in them with the Toyota, often carrying pretty heavy loads of logs, hay, &c. I think I replaced the front pads a few years ago. Rotors are just fine - admittedly it's an '88 and I've only had it for about 100K miles, so I don't know what the previous owner(s) may have done.

I talked with a guy who daily/tracked his GT-R and rotors lasted him 10,000-15,000 miles

Thank you for your reply, I like how your experience with a completely different vehicle that is significantly lighter presupposes we must not be driving our vehicle correctly. I will be sure to instruct the misses that our mountain is not an "actual mountain" and all premature wear on the vehicle is entirely psychosomatic". Additionaly, I will instruct other armada and titan owners experiencing the same issue that premature rotor wear is just a conspiracy.

Welcome to Ecomoder. I guess.

Here's my contribution, also concerning a lighter, dissimilar vehicle:

When I did the brakes on my Superbeetle, I sent them out to Frozen Rotors for cryogenic tempering. They don't get enough use to judge the long-term benefit, the process doubled the cost of the parts. It's popular with racers and police car maintenance departments.
