It was a nice day for a motorcycle ride so I went out to research some new solar farms in my area at two local colleges. I wasn't able to get the answers for two simple questions in the college libraries but got a name of a purchasing director so maybe he can tell me: How much did the installation really cost. I mean really cost at the bottom of the bill to the dollar. And how much energy did it make through a meter over a one year period.

So the preliminary report from a TC3 superintendant on their solar farm states
"The 2,000 kW solar farm is constructed on about 10 acres of land. From what I was able to obtain from the owner the construction cost was a bit over $5,000,000. It produces about 2,750,000 kWh per year. It is remotely metered by the owner, NextEra energy but it is not a public site."

So roughly $2.50/W installed capacity running at 15.7%

And this is without any continuing operation and management costs.

And no storage which would more than double the price for just 18 hours of battery storage.

Solar PV is very expensive and is not what the trade magazines are misleading us to believe.

I have associates degree in applied science for solar and wind power production.
They are not misleading me at all.
Less than 16% name plate utilization, is this some where in the east coast or PNW?

Syracuse, NY, USA. 16% of nameplate would be high. I would still like to see the actual month by month production number from the meter.

The misleading info commonly presented to the general public state claims of new installations being bid at $0.80/W. Which is never documented to be true of a completed project. And the media never tell us that the nameplate needs to be multiplied by 1/5 to get the actual average output.

The newest low pricing I see bandied about as 2.2c/kWh which is way off and not supported by data from any finished solar farms anywhere. The farm in my town is doing 16c/kWh over 30 years. With no taxes or ongoing O&M costs even added in yet. And no storage.

There seems to be mass hypnosis among staunch solar advocates which prevents them from accepting anything that contradicts what is published in the media.

Around here I can bet on 20%.
Solar in NY seems like a waste of time, with all the unions, organized crime, environmental bs, lack of sun, criminal elements and so on. The only advantage is it would be close to market.
