The new Vesta will be out 2017. If it hits big i'll buy one at least in 2025.

Only announced 33MPG? Well, I guess it's Russian-spec.

buut the war wagon will carry on for a long time.

I am poor AF.

We got the seasonal speed limits (Max 80km/h on all roads, except motorways 100km/h)

Now I can drive 80km/h so my consumption drops. Gotta block the grille and use my DEFA block heater.

Also found out my car's final drive ratio is 4.10.

I find almost everybody around Göteborg just drives the same summer or winter. Speed 'limits' are more suggested sppeds so most drive 20 km / h faster.

For the grill I found some corrogated plastic and have made several grill blocks, with each block having a slightly different sized holes. Then as the temperatures change I can swap the grills.

My plan (if I every get round to it) is to have a complete block with several adjustable vents that I can manually open.

Has the Vaz got an under engine cover ? - I bought an aftermarket one and I have found that its helps a little with economy, but it keeps the engine soooo much cleaner.

It's oil change season soon.

I wonder what I should put in the engine (We have cold winters here)

10w-40
5w30 C2
10W60
5w40 C3

Something else for lower FE

In mind, the engine design is from the 70's with solid tappets/buckets. And EURO 3 emissions.

The gearbox accepts anything API GL-4 (GL-5 is too slippery for the syncros and corrodes the copper in the syncros)

or should I try ATF in the gearbox? Will the diff complain?

Now I have GL-4 Mineral in the box.

when VAZ released the Samara (Same gearbox) they just recommended standard motor 10w-40 oil for the gearbox so it's not very picky .

Cold winters usually mean thinner oil, I would guess that if you spend much time below -10C, a 5W-30 should do fine... It's my experience however that older designed engines aren't quite as picky on oil viscosity as the newer designs are...

How far has the car gone ?

My previous car had gone a fair distance and the thinner oils would disappear, nothing excessive but between oil changes it'd prob take an extra 1.5 l.

Here is a site with a little information about oil viscosities but as bonestock said the 5W30 should do fine.
Car Bibles : The Engine Oil Bible

Judging from your list of oil it looks very much like the biltema oils, and I have used found them to be quite alright, although now I buy oil over the internet, where I can get a premium oil with postage for about the same price as a lower midrange oil in the shops.

Opie Oils - Automotive Fluids, Oils, Parts, Tools is the company I used last (and will use again), their prices are about the best, they will actually post abroad and they have a wide range of filters and oils. Delivery was awful though as it went with UPS and I ended up having to go to their terminal (40km away) to pick it up.

Haven't really listened to much of Kent's music, shame that they are finishing though.
