It turns out I spoke too soon. This was at the Bug Run one year:

http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2018/04/tom-monaghan-founder-of-dominos-pizza.html

Dominick's (later Domino's) Pizza's first pizza delivery car.

Co-incidentally, I was delivering pizza for a pizza parlor in Corvallis, OR, about that time in an Anthracite Gray 1958 Beetle. But I didn't own the business and I never got to have a Bugatti Royale like Tom Monaghan.

edit:
More from Jalopnik. Máté Petrány in April, 2013:

Quote:
this concept was born three years after Giugiaro left Ghia to start his own studio, Italdesign. Based on the Beetle with a 1.6-liter boxer producing 50 horsepower at best, the Cheetah was created without Karmann's help, although the soft top which could be hidden between the seats was their design.
J. Torchinsky last September:

It needs the Superbeetle Macpherson struts.

Gizmodo.com:This Miniature Ride-On VW Van Lets Your Kids Take a Year Off Preschool to Go Find Themselves

Quote:
Most ride-on toys look like caricatures of the original vehicles they’re based on, but Beyond Infinity has done a fantastic job of preserving the proportions and overall design of this iconic vehicle.... You’ll even find a USB port on the dashboard for connecting a media player so your kids can blast Canned Heat’s “Going up the Country” as they cruise around the neighborhood.

Considering that boliguayos don't seem to enjoy Volkswagens (unless they've been stolen in Brazil and exchanged for drugs and weapons) as much as they do for old JDM Toyotas, it's quite surprising to figure out that amount of VW parts would find their way there.

That's the reason the warehouses are full of obsolete parts. Back in the day VW salted spare parts all around the planet because next-day delivery didn't exist.

Then tastes changed and the caches of OEM parts were reclaimed by the jungle. ()

I tired of searching for an example, but the Hot VWs editors had tales years ago of flying into various countries and buying up anything they could fit in their luggage. The only supporting example I found was on Youtube.

Many of those "exotic" countries where large amounts of NOS parts were found might've even been supplied with Brazilian stuff, since the local branch of VW used to have a very successful exports program by then. Brazilian-made EA827 engines had been used even in Germany. Surprisingly, in some regions of Brazil people are already now complaining about a diminishing availability of decent-quality replacement parts for older VWs.
