We used a tank of Liquid nitrogen to strip the undercoating and insulation of a car,, worked very well. But best done outside and wearing a full set of heavy heavy raingear..

Reminiscing on my birthday. Just found some photos from when I first bought the Firebird in 1979. It still had the dealer's tag on it when I first put it in the garage. BTW, that's my late Dad in the photo, not me. My wife and I got lots of miles and smiles out of the Firebird before I put it away for the "someday" project (now known as the Firebrid Project.)

A few questions:
When is your b-day?
Are you going to keep those fender-mirrors?
What about that pod in the hood? Was it used as a housing for the tach? Since there is no tach in the Prius, how could you repurpose that feature?

Apparently it could be connected, with a bit of electronic circuit building to adapt to having less than 8 cylinders.

Since it's more of an efficiency-oriented project, I wonder if some sort of analog "economy gauge" similar to what had been fitted to some Brazilian Fiats wouldn't match better this project.

My birthday was yesterday, Sept 20. (I turned 60)
Nope, they're gone. I will be using the factory Pontiac outside mirrors in their original location.
The hood tach has no purpose, and my wife thinks it's ugly. It won't be there in the future.

The Economy gauge is just a vacuum gauge, which would be at zero as often as the tach would be. Anyway, my wife still thinks that the hood tach is ugly, so it's gone.

But how cool would it be to take the OBDII data, convert it to whatever drives the gauge (probably pulses/sec?) and make 0-8000 rpms into 0-80 mpg? Analog gauges are just so much more... visceral.
I've been thinking of getting a couple of these 3" panel meters and using the output from my OBDIIC&C (serial data stream) and an Arduino to make an analog state of charge and assist/regen amp display for my Insight.
