I will have to forfeit as I will not fill my 99 TDI again before I sell it. It's still a bit over the halfway mark and I won't drive it anymore now that I have the 2000. Anyway, it was heading towards the low 50s at best so I'm sure socket would have me beaten.

Hi,
There is only a 5 gallon minimum, so if you fill it, you can make a legit fuel log entry?

I could probably make a 5 gallons fillup, just barely, but I'm not gonna spend money filling the tank of a car I'm selling. I could probably siphon it afterwards, but I know I'm not gonna make it to the next round anyway. My opponent would need to have a tank below 25 mpg which is just not gonna happen.

Here's the Thanksgiving Tourney Update...
* We have determined due to Tas retiring the Jetta recently that Socket will advance to the next round. Initially, we were going to try to estimate Tas's mpg and have him pick up with a new vehicle but it would be too difficult. Therefore, Tas will have one of the 16 slots in the next tourney. (This seemed to be the fairest decision). Socket's first fuel log entry (what would have been his first round tank) will now be his second round tank.
* Bhazard and his Festiva posted a fine first round tank (51.67 mpg --- 3.99 mpg over his 90 day avg) and advanced past Johnny Mullet and his Metro into the second round.
* Still stretching the mpg's with no recorded first round tanks are Tango (Vibe), RH77 (Integra), RobbieW (Yaris) and Binger (Mirage).
* Socket (+8.8 mpg) now faces Bhazard in the second round. Taco is waiting for the Sean T./Binger winner. CFG83/Tango winner will face off against 1337/RobbieW winner. We're almost down to the Elite 8!
Updated bracket is attached...

My first round fill up will be coming probably this afternoon or tomorrow. As of now it is looking like a good tank.

I have aired down the tires in the Clunker and am driving with the e-brake on to get my 90-day down in preparation for the next round. :-)

I just posted my first round tank. If my math is correct, I made it to round two.

You are correct Robbie...first round win for the Yaris vs. 1337's Benz.
Our closest first round matchup so far...1.34 mpg separated the two drivers.
We now have 5 of the 8 second round drivers in place!
Updated schedule is attached...

How's Olivia doing Tango? Anxious to see if Indiana can upset So Cal in the first round. Did you give Olivia an old school Indiana "Bobby Knight" pep talk?

Regardless of who wins this competition the first round results are encouraging given the cooler temps that have been taking place. Even if there's only 1 winner the first round tanks have proven a little competition can help FE.
Some drivers finished the aero mods they've been trying to complete...some installed grill blocks or block heaters...others added a little more focus to their driving. All in all...so far so good and we still have 3 drivers left to post their first round tanks.
A few notes of success so far on the posted first round tanks...
* Johnny Mullet posted his best tank in four fill-ups.
* Bhazard posted his second best tank ever.
* CFG83 posted his best tank in five fill-ups.
* RobbieW posted his best tank in six fill-ups.
* Sean T. posted his second best tank ever.
* Taco posted his best tank in eight fill-ups.

I was not surprised that I got beaten. If bhazard had the same snow-covered road conditions, it would have been an even closer battle.
Good job!

My Thanksgiving week off of work resulted in a higher-than-normal percentage of in-town driving, which I am not as good at as my daily commute. Back to work this morning, pulse and gliding like a crazed madman, trying to get the average back up...
By my unreliable calculations, I'll have to better 38.11 to beat cfg83.
It might be close, but it's not looking good for me.
I expect to fill up Wednesday (12/03/2008).
