"Green Hell" Progress Thread

Well, I figured now that I've sold my mustang to invest in other things I have to keep the mod habit alive by hypermiling the civic (as much as i can). Currently, I've delved even deeper into the car since i'm going to school for mechanical engineering and I really enjoy working with cars whether it be race cars or economy cars. This summer i'm working for a civil engineering company, Efco Corp, as an Engineering intern, driving around 1000 miles a week so vehicle cost add up and I want to be able to afford to go home 200 miles away, go to all the events I would like to attend all over AR and TN, and commute to work at 140 miles per day.
The car: bought the car last June and have just been fixing the electrical issues, brakes, drivetrain problems, replacing fluids and wear items, cleaning, etc... But now the car runs like a top, besides the attrocious oil consumption. (1qt/440mi)
Also wanna state that besides the body on this car looking rough as hell, i really don't intend to do any ugly janky mpg mods.
So in the last two weeks I have logged 2000 miles and averaged 38.3mpg, gps corrected.
Current mods for this week:
1 - Bought a scan gauge to hook up and bring the car into the 21st century with telemetry that helps the driver. Being able to tell the fuel your using, engine temp, and just miles to e should help a ton! Seems like most 90s civics after about 8 gallons used, the gauge just bounces around and you have no idea what is in the tank.
2 - Started on creating the full underbody tray. First segment I ended up making was the front clip. Seems this alone is a huge improvement, similar to how the 05-14 mustang's have their front lower clips completely sealed off.
3 - Passenger mirror delete and passenger wiper delete. What's funny is how much this improved highway traveling. Deleting the mirror really helped cut down on vibration at speed, and you even notice a difference in how water travels easily off the window versus pooling up air flow and sitting on the window like the driver's side mirror. Wiper delete also seems to keep that dang Honda designed wiper from slapping water in my face and having the driver's side mirror miss that wipe and having that water run up the windshield in my face.
4 - Valve seals! 15.00$ and some time and this should cure my oil consumption problem. The plugs, cat, and o2 sensors are still alive, but it's not fun burning this much oil even with my stock pile of 9$ 5 quart bottles of oil.

Next up: Possibly seeing if I can pick up a single cheapo ebay racing mirror instead of a pair. Tracking down a CX/VX transmission. Also the beast is really in need of a new set of wheels and tires. Current setup im using was a set of wheel and tire (175/70/13) that I picked up locally for 50 bucks. The only problem is they are chinese, load rating is low, and water traction is mediocre. Aiming for a set of 15" steel wheels and some 175/65/15 michelin energy saver a/s tires.
I also realized I can probably throw in my suzuka cobra pro fit racing seat too but i'm not sure it'd be too comfy in the civic. Haha all in the name of weight reduction and I already have it. It would be nice to have a seat that isn't so flat and non bolstered like the 90s hondas.

I will also post updates with pictures and testing since I don't have much of either currently.

If it's burning 1qt/440mi you might want to gut the converter so it doesn't plug up with oil ash from the additives in the oil.

If it's seals throw 'em in first before messing up the cat.

I have them ordered. Should be installed next weekend. Current cat has a huge crack all the way through it so if it fails, not too big of a deal. I have welded it up but its cracked about 50% of the way through the entire unit and I still smell a little bit of exhaust, probably from an area under the exhaust shield i cannot get to to weld all the way up.

That's a lot of oil for valve seals only.

I had seals split so they can be pretty much useless.
