What intrigues me is that most of the Ford EcoBoost engines have had aftermarket tunes developed for them due to SCT support... I wonder if anybody has tuned the 1.0T? You could probably gain some power and FE by optimizing the engine to run on 93 octane fuel, and probably make 5th gear more useful too...

Higher octane fuel = lower BTU = lower MPG. Not to mention efficiency gains would have to first outweigh the additional cost of premium fuel, then still save money.

I hadn't thought of BTU content of higher octane fuel(though I know that E85 has much lower BTU content while its 107 octane)... Makes me better understand why my other car does so poorly on fuel...

Gearing

Drove a rent a car in Iceland last week. It was a Ford Focus not sure what engine but it was at 2000 rpm/100kms. For 3600 Km I got a avg of 6.6l/100kms. Really liked the car and the mileage. My curiosity got to me and I looked in the manual and under the hood but couldn't tell the size of the engine.

I'm intrigued by the impressive and useful torque curve of that little 3 cylinder. This is the first new car I've seriously considered buying in quite some time.

I have been using premium fuel the last few tanks, my local BP, which is not know for its quality. I had a few tanks around 37 with high speeds and consistent a/c usage, had a cool long slow drive this weekend and got 46, with my new rims and the premium fuel, i could have hit high 48 or so, i have done several times before for the ssame trip.
