I should have taken a picture of the lot last winter, out of hundreds of vehicles parked there were only 5 "cars" including mine, rest were mini van like objects and trucks. One guy drives an old dump truck around.

He would be labeled a flaming affeminate liberal by Wisconsin standards.

Also an elitist mainly because his vehicle was made after 1985,

He also would get informed how a Prius is extremely dangerous and undrivable in snow, only a 4wd can drive during winter.

I don't see why a hybrid car engine would require any "special" plating at all.

I was in Tokyo, Japan last week.

Didn't see any evidence of Prius hate. They really love them there and adorn them with bodykits, coilover-suspensions, led-lights. Amazing - now I think I want one. :-)

At the Airport, I even bought a Prius modding magazine. I'm sure that can't end well.

There is a crank, rod coating used on race engines that supposed to increase power, reduce heat/friction and increase fuel milage. The company claims the coating process is applied here in the US.
There are coatings out there like this, but as far as I know it's not unusually toxic, they are done in the US and pretty much only to race engines, not applied stuff that goes down a production line for daily drivers.

Then to play devils advocate, if this coating is so good why only apply it to hybrid engines.

If none of us have heard of it then it probably does not exist.

Nissan claim to be the first carmaker to be able to apply it to production engines and you will find it on the MR16DDT engines that go on Renault Clio's and the Nissan Juke's.

Put simply, it's not an easy chemical process to do. Nissan say they are the first to do it.

The MR16DDT isn't that economical as it's more oriented towards power. But I've been in cars with them in and the engines do feel very much smoother than conventional non-treated engines so I have to admit that I think they have achieved what they are claiming.

Coatings like this have been around decades, they are good for several percentage points improvement but having a car that gets terrific MPGs for 20-50000 miles then tapering off would likely create backlash

And you're in Buckley?!? The consensus 12 miles down the hill here in Sumner is that Buckley is the source of our coal-rolling Trump-flagging rednecks on Main St.! ;-p

And dang it, only a couple of weeks left to get my 48 Volt Vegan ready for the Buckley Loggers Jubilee lawnmower races...

There's lots of rednecks rolling coal in Buckley... but I commute to Tukwila. There's loads of hybrids (not just Prius) and electrics up here and on my daily slog up the 167.

Which day is the lawnmower race? That weekend I've got a wedding and a car show I'm judging, so I probably won't be able to get over there.

hybrid hate exists here, but it's not so much common. Priuses have shown to be reliable, so the hate pretty much dried up.

Something wrong with me then. I've lived in snow country for 61 (out of 65) years, and have never owned a 4WD. Or even used 4WD in snow.

And the local rural mailman drives a new Prius. His old Prius has 285,000 miles and is still good. His route is 99 miles with 300 boxes.
