I agree. If someone could get these to market cheap enough (say 1-2k complete) , we could have tens of thousands of "mild" hybrids on the road in no time. Lets face it, 20K for a prius is just not an option for a lot of people. If an e-wheel system was affordable I think many would consider it. Even a 20-40 mile range on the highway would make a huge impact on fuel comsumption imo.

I have thought about printing a little sign saying 40mpg and sticking it my rear window. A lot cheaper than buying a sticker, and a lot easier to remove.

Here's the sign I printed, cut out, and taped to my rear window:

I was at a local hardware store and found these self-adhesive stickers that came in white or black and were nice and clean cut. They were priced at 0.25 for each sticker, so I dug some change out of my pocket and bought the numbers and letters I needed.............

Hello,
I know for a fact now that some of my neighbors and other folks have noticed my MPG sign, and a few of them (at least) will have visited this site, too.

I came close to sticking a little "40 mpg" sign in my rear window. I wanted to put it on the rear driver side so the people who pass me see it.
Hey Johnny M, those stickers look great! Maybe I will break down and do that. But then what if my MPG improves more. I was going to put 40 mpg. But what if I get to 41 mpg (where I am heading average-wise). Maybe I could put a little plus in there. 40+ mpg.

You just use a razor and find a Quarter for a new number
My average is 57 and that's why I stuck that average on. I usually beat that number, but it's enough to make people think about what they are doing.

I did not realize how much attention these stickers get! I have been talking to people all day who been asking me questions. I told them all about ecomodder.com also. I even had 2 people asking me to sell the car today alone.
I may look into smaller stickers though. These are quite large and make one hell of a bold statement to the pissed off SUV and truck daily drivers. On second thought, I want bigger stickers now!

I looked for white vinyl die cut stickers today, but couldn't find any. I checked Home Depot, Lowes, and Walmart. I will check a couple craft stores tomorrow maybe.

I was thinking about this too; I recently found out that it's illegal in MO to have a lighted message board on your car. (I found out while I was researching mirror laws) Somehow, pizza delivery cars and taxi cabs get around this..

I have an oval green "got 50 mpg?" on the back of my Chevy Metro like this one:
Promote Biodiesel - BioDieselNow - Renewable biodiesel fuel
Why not just use white shoe polish on the outside of the window? It just wipes off, and if it rains - easy to reapply. High school kids do it all the time with their cars.

Cuz I think it looks cheezy. I like Johnny's sign. It looks sharp.
I wonder if they make a Got 40 MPG oval?

Isn't all of this mpg posting just too aggressive?

Try office supply stores. I long ago worked at an Officemax, and they carried die-cut vinyl letters. Individual huge ones, and packs of small ones, in different colors.

Thanks, I passed by an OfficeMax tonight (after I checked out Michaels), and thought that that might be a place to check. Unfortunatly I didn't have time at the moment. I was planning on hitting Staples tomorrow at lunch. Then I got home and saw your post. So maybe one of those places with have them.

I was thinking of putting a mods list like this on my hatch.
Grill block- 3mpg
Proper tire pressure- 5mpg
Wheel skirts- 2.5 mpg
Getting 50 MPG = PRICELESS
Not to 50 yet but will be above soon.
