125 miles disqualifies pretty much every EV that isn't a Bolt or Tesla (unless you're fine with/able to stop and charge along the way). If you want a plug, a plugin hybrid like the Volt or Prius plugin might be better.

Here's my gen2 Prius. The split window takes a bit to get used to, but the upper window alone gives a better view than most newer cars.

The window fills the width of the mirror, camera didn't want to capture that.

I'm a car guy, so naturally I look for cars all the time. Is this a smoking deal or what?

Brand new 2018 chevy sonic sedan, 5 speed. Under $10k.

How's this one?

2013 Prius V - 78,000 miles - good condition - $8,500

This is listed as gas fuel, therefore is not hybrid, is that right?

The car is listed in several different cities on Craigslist, and the owner doesn't answer text or phone. Is that some kind of scam?

Okay the guy answered and said huh. I said hi this is (name) calling about your Prius. Answer: uhh. Is it still available? Answer: uhh. What can you tell me about it? Answer: All the information is in the ad. Is it a hybrid? He hangs up.

Every Prius is a hybrid. Price is great from what I can tell, but the seller sounds terrible. I believe that the eco, EV, and PWR modes are standard in the gen3, C, and V, so pretty much the only info in the ad about that particular car is the miles. The V gets a little worse mileage due to it's larger size, but the larger cargo area and improved rear seat room could be worth it.

I thought it was hybrid but he doesn't have it listed that way. I called right back and left a message, "Sorry I got disconnected. I'm interested to buy your car. Let me know by text or phone when you're ready." I won't be hearing from him. My friend thinks the car was stolen and he's trying to make a quick sale with no questions. In any case, it was too good to be true.

I went shopping today and saw many very nice Hondas parking. Are the gas ones okay, other than having lower mileage, or is it better to wait for a hybrid?

I think so, the only major Honda issues I can think of are the series of bad V6 automatic transmissions and those were in the early 2000's. I personally wouldn't buy a sedan or coupe anymore, but YMMV - hatches have so much more utility it's not funny, but my needs are not necessarily yours. Honda didn't sell a Civic hatchback for a long time, which left basically only the Fit and Insight, unless I'm forgetting about something.

I would pass on the Sonic, most reports I've read are that they're garbage, they fall apart and get terrible mileage for what they are. I think the Sonic EV is ok, but I doubt you'll find one for 10k.

If your budget is $10k, there are quite a few plug-in hybrids you could probably afford. Nearly all of them are hatches too. Running costs for a plug-in are easily half that of conventional gas cars, only a G1 Insight can even just match a large 5-door with electric range.

I have a first gen Civic Hybrid with the 5MT, no gear grind issues at 200,000 miles but I use 3rd for decel instead of 2nd. It's been a great car but you have to be willing to do occasional battery maintenance. Nothing too terrible but every few months a grid charge to equalize the pack, and every couple of grid charges, a deep discharge for a complete equalization.

I also have an 09 Prius. Mine has about 203k on it. Paid about $5000 -some cosmetic issues. Keep on top of the oil levels but aside from that it's a great car. I don't know where the upkeep comment came from, this has been a very painless car to own.

I drove a 2nd gen Insight, it's nice enough but small. Noticeably smaller than the Prius, definitely a four person car, not five. I've heard enough bad experiences with Honda CVTs however, so no sale.

If it were me, I'd look at Prii or manual Civic Hybrid. Ford hybrids use a similar setup to the Prius, so a Fomoco hybrid might be worth considering if one is in the market, especially the plug in models.

And strongly consider a Volt. Coworker has one for about four years now, loves it. He gasses up about once a month.

There's always the Mitsubishi Mirage if you don't mind its quirks. Quite a few hypermilers enjoy their Mirages.

Its rear visibility is decent.
