That's interesting, but since it uses a custom engine it would be more difficult to do something similar. Well, unless you manage to modify a Honda CB 500 engine and make it fit

Most car engines are designed for optimum performance at maximum speed and load, which are in reality rarely used. At 55 bhp, the engine has the same performance as the original Twingo. Other performance parameters, such as maximum speed, elasticity and acceleration are the same or better.

that looks interesting

a engine swap is inevitable in 100k kms or so, as it's driven over 200k kilometers anyway ajnd i know it will be showing wear then. Buut thankfully, the engines and gearboxes for this thing are common and are even in Dacia's today

Looks fun.

I love the "happy eyes" on the Twingo.

But the name is all wrong -- "twin go" should mean dual engines. Or hybrid.

Is just an engine overhaul out of question?

This "Twingo SmILE" was presented on august 13, 1996 in Luzern (Switzerland). After some little modifications, its fuel consumption falls at 3,3 liters / 100 km, half as a normal Twingo !

Can we consider that the "Twingo SmILE" is still a Twingo ? In fact, Greenpeace replaced its engine (358 cm3, with maximal power of 55 bhp at 5.500 rpm), made its aerodynamic better (30 %), and reduced its weight of 195 kg (20 %). But we can say that the Twingo-spirit is intact, isn't it ?
3.3 L/100 km = 71 MPG US.

I know most of you guys cant get smart 450 CDIs in america but i live in a very hilly city with yearly temps from -20c to +40c. This last winter(avg about -8c), mostly city driving up and down steep hills, with a small fuel leak, I averaged 4.5L/100km driving normally. Highway driving normally with traffic in summer i can comfortably get 3.3L/100km.

not really just makes thing quicker

Volkswagens are a good example for this kind of engineering, it's quicker to just swap out the engines for service than overhaul it in the car

It runs nicely on 50/50 regular and RE85 ethanol gas

consumption is 30% bigger though, negating the 22% fuel price difference- i guess its the CAI and our winter weather.
