New car- Project T-D-I-C (Volvo 760)

I gotcha m'self a new project!

A 1989, Volvo 760 Turbo Diesel Intercooler- Manual

It had 470,000 kms on the odo, and i bought it because it was a semi-ok steal.

The plan is to reregister it to a van by removing the rear seats in order to have a hugely smaller diesel tax (now its about 700usd a year, vs it will be 400usd or so after reregistration)

later it's Volkswagen straight-six turbo intercooled ICE will be swapped for some weird audi 5-pot diesel... some say for economy, some say for 50% increase in horsepower

Mah friend fixed the clutch, now it shifts smoothly. (for now, the wire-clutched transmission will be thrown in the dumpster once he new engine goes in with a newer box, that is also a hydraulic clutch.

I have only driven one 760 sedan, it was with the 2.8v6 engine+automatic, chugging around 15L/100km
Was planning on buying a 700-series diesel once but at the time they were overpriced for my taste

Good cars, however

yeah, this feel sturdy even if it's neglected a bit. It seems it has a LSD. it's an ex-nivomat, after all.

Clutch... seats... things are moving fast. It sounds like a VW motor in a 'bank vault'.

I also got a diesel recently, it's ten years older, non-turbo, but I like it. First thing I did was fold the rear seat so I can sleep in the back, but the bottom cushion folded up against the back of the front seats makes it hard to get out the front, and there is no inner hatch release. I want to pull the whole seat and make a flat platform. Swing-door material (aluminum-skinned plywood) is $100 per sheet; maybe I can find a use (box van) swing-door.

IIRC its engine was still indirect-injection, good for some experiences with waste vegetable oils as an alternate fuel.

Now it has a exhaust a bit closer to completion.

Also, we'll get better springs (cut springs right now, not good)

IF you eventually lower it, don't cut the original springs. That's a half-ass job that does harm the safety.
