Taken delivery

Still working so not been out in it yet.

On the economy front it's showing 49.8 lifetime mpg. The driver who delivered it 200 miles achieved 61mpg

If I assume the previous owner was a typical driver then boosting his figures by 20% should be relatively simple.......hopefully.

That's imperial.

I'm not too familiar with the menu system, so I think rather than lifetime mpg that was over the last 4.9k miles.

The Euro rating for the Insight is 61mpg, so for the driver to achieve that on the trip here is very good imo(she did have eco mode on btw).

Looking forward to getting out in her this evening!

The trip meters are actually quite easy to use.
You can cycle through 4 modes:
- total odometer distance,
- Trip A distance,
- Trip B distance and
- days/miles to next service (whichever seems nearest)
by pressing the Sel/Reset button. See the manual: page 76.
(Warning: big...)

You can reset Trip A or Trip B by pressing and holding the Sel/Reset button for 2 seconds while they show.
You cannot reset the service interval like that, you cannot reset the odometer at all

The Info ^/v buttons let you cycle through the 8 MID display modes.
An ecomodder will likely show the instant FE monitor most of the time.
Trip A and B have their own economy record that resets with resetting the like trip meter. With the odometer it shows Trip A economy (too).

You can reset the trip meters whenever you like.
I found it informative to reset Trip B at every cold start.
I use Trip A to record my per tank economy.

Now the Insight has a setting to make it reset Trip A automatically at every fillup.
This will make you go through the depth of the menu system.
Take time to get accustomed to it (see page 91 and on) then at page 99 you'll find the TRIP A RESET with REFUEL menu with which, you guessed it.

First, enjoy the car

So this evening I took her out for the first drive (busy week). The exact same route as I was able to achieve a reliable 59mpg in my 1.6 diesel sw with a warm starting engine. It's approx 60% fast road 50% urban driving with 30mph limits.

In the Insight, with a cold start and a first time drive, I managed 60.4mpg imperial Tyres look as if they are under-inflated too. And not by hypermiling standards either!

I'm very happy with the car in general. Very comfy seats. Very smooth, easy drive and the handling is leagues ahead of my previous car.

No buyer's remorse here!

83 miles today mixed driving.

Inflated tyres to 44 psi all round (rated to 51psi).

67.2 imperial mpg.

The Insight's eco training is having a positive influence.

Nice results! Glad to hear you're enjoying it.

Some translations for others:

60.4 mpg Imp = 50.3 mpg US = 4.7 L/100 km

67.2 mpg Imp = 56 mpg US = 4.2 L/100 km

Yes I'm extremely pleased with it on all fronts. A minor gripe is the low res sat nav but never mind. We'll be racking up a lot of miles so just as well I'm happy!

Tbh, all my driving thus far has been minimal use of brakes, anticipation and slow acceleration then stick it in cruise. Nothing too special so there is more to come. I'll need to learn more about manipulating the system to my advantage etc so there's that to look forward too.

Weekend mpg, 300 miles, was 69.1 imperial mpg

It appears this thread has been inactive for over a year. I thoought I would make my first post an addition rather than starting a new thread...

Just bought a 2011 Insight EX with Reconstructed title. Both these are first time for me. I have been aware of ecomodder for a few years.

What are your experiences with utilizing the info in this now-5-year-old article?

/showthread.php/diy-solutions-honda-hybrid-battery-problems-insight-civic-13610.html

I absolutely have no clue about most of the jargon used in these discussions, so i will be asking for explanations if anyone cares to post.

Basic question is: does RobertSmalls' article apply to the 2nd gen Insight; and is it possible to greatly extend the original battery life by doing the balancing operation he describes?

I have not yet read the manual do i don't even know how to work the car except to drive it.

My main/most significant use of my car is a semi-monthly 1300+ mile dash between Portland and San Francisco, and I need to maintain 70+ mph to make time.

The second gen Insight has not had hybrid battery problems this far, unlike some same aged Civics.
If it would ever be necessary there is a pack charger for the I2 here.
