Dirt Roads, no problem, lets go.

Anyway, I got to thinking about this "EcoRun". Did you know Ashtabula County has more covered bridges than any place in the USA? We could do a "Covered Bridge Tour" and stop at 4 or 5 of them to take pictures and stuff and work our way back to the meet area. A few of them are on dirt roads and I try to avoid dirt roads when possible, but there are some nice ones on paved roads also.

What do you think of this idea instead of just going to the lake and back? Maybe even include Lake Erie as one of the stops?
I like the idea,
after my recent trip, I am sure no one will have any trouble with the dirt roads.
If I can climb a mountain, over dirt, on two cylinders, sometimes at 45 degree climb, then anyone else can also.
See you there,
Schultz

There has to be some way to work a MPG competition into all this...

I think the hint is that driving around to look at covered bridges is kind of unrelated to an eco gathering WITHOUT making an mpg contest out of it

I've been following this thread and have gone from 'tempted' to 'probably going to show up because it's a reasonable trip for a day.'

Maybe I'll try to get some more coroplast in the next couple weeks, and test some skirts or something....

One of the reason I want to go "Road Trip", can finally get an all-highway Mpg estimate. Plus will be nice to meet everyone face to face and check our some eco-rides.

I am not sure how to work in a MPG contest or even if we are going to do something like that or not. I guess we will see what happens! I am currently mapping out our "Ecomodder Covered Bridge Tour" to make it efficient, yet practical. I am thinking will will visit 5 or 6 of them on the Eastern side of Ashtabula County so we don't run all over the county needlessly. Most of them are on dirts roads though so I guess washing the cars would be a waste of time unless I route us all to the car wash at the end of the tour

Here is a map of the Ashtabula County Covered Bridges..................

I will get a route planned for us shortly. I say we take mostly back roads, and keep our speed at around 45-50 MPH tops to be fair to the guys with auto transmissions. We will actually go right by my house since I am just south of the Caine Road bridge.

Updates coming soon!

P.S. whokilledthejams, we would be honored to have you! So far you would be the only New York resident attending right now. You are actually closer then most of the people coming.

I'm flattered, but there's a chance I might not be able to make it! Short story: family stuff, but it all hinges on what saturday in september my girlfriend takes off for that. We'll see, I should know for sure soon.

Count on another Festiva to be there!
Looks like we might have a respectable Festiva showing among-st all the Metro's!
I want to thank Benjamin F.T. Jones for getting my registration fixed so I could actually participate here.
Been trying to squeeze every mile out of every gallon for almost 30 yrs!
First with a Renault R5, then an old '78 Honda CVCC, on to a '80 Honda civic CVCC, and now with my fleet of Festivas and a '81 VW rabbit diesel!
Sorry about the long winded Biography.
Just wanted to let you know I might be new here, but have been at this game a while!
Do we have a list of what we need as far as foodage and or support items for this meet?
I don't want to showup empty handed!

Welcome to ecomodder and it's great to have you join us at the meet!

We could probably use chips, dip, and more refreshments if you desire, but it's no big deal. I got most of it covered. See you soon!

Johnny, I don't believe I've seen you around. Good to see a local on here!

I guess I will have to show up since it is also in my back yard.

If all goes well, I shall be picking up my new ride tonight, a 97 Civic HX. It is the only one I could find in my price range within 200 miles, however it has been "riced out" with a coffee can exhaust and "headerz" along with a couple nasty dents in the side. Hopefully by then I can have it in better eco form (smaller tires, mellow-er exhaust, scangauge, etc)

I live about 30 min away from the picnic area, so if anyone needs tools for an emergency repair (knock on wood), I can provide. I can also try to be down there on Saturday to help out the non-locals with directions/ideas on places to go.

I do have a cornhole game to bring (the beanbag game) for entertainment at the picnic.

Bringing Both Metros?

I'm trying to convince my kids to go with me and follow behind with the girls '97 Metro(Indie) that I recently acquired. I'll be flying by the seat of my pants as usual, with no sleeping provisions. I have a couple small tents for the boys and girls(17,16,15,13), and I could sleep in my car, I guess...
I figured we'd go to the Saturday vigil Mass, and then make the 4 1/2 hr trip down...I'd probably arrive at the park at around 11pm Saturday night. Looking forward to hanging out with everyone...

Johnny,

You need to post an invite for your gathering over on 3cylinders.com...I'm not sure of it's members' locations, but maybe a few of them will show up as well.

Hacksaw.
