that is interesting. I wonder if simon and crew could help out 72v guy.

But since budget is such a concern there, and motors are plentiful and cheap (and since you put the idea in my head long ago), I do wonder if an (identical?) motor and a 6 pack igbt can make a suitable converter, maybe just the stator? locked rotor? moving rotor?!? moving rotor with flywheel?!?!? (two phases leading with one lagging?) as long as the phase leads are easy enough to get to I recon.

That way they don't need to know what they are doing. they could just do:
0001 0101 0101 1110 or something.
Check boxes work visually, but that assumes a lot of work on the back end. If we go back to the idea that there is a dedicated CPU that reads throttle, brake, runs the brake light for regen, etc that one could also have a small operator interface for configuring things like this .. and send it to the AC Controller in whatever form you need.

I really need to get back into it, but I quit programming when it all became microsoft foundation classes that were so nested and bloated that I didn't really understand what was happening anymore, and I would make a "hello world" program whose .exe was 1 megabyte big. It was just depressing. I think that's the reason all my microsoft programs need to have emergency updates EVERY STINKING DAY. The programmers don't know what they heck they did. Microcontrollers were my new lease on life, since it was like programming my old 80386 16MHz computer.

did simon say if grinding the rotor bar end connections off would make the stator a better inductor with a reasonable air gap?

re: programming, javascript for gui stuff these days. If someone is running a 10 year old browser, sorry. things don't work like that anymore I'm afraid. small java backend to connect via bluetooth from your android to the controller, or from your win/mac/linux pc. I couldn't care less what iphone users do, apple has been a complete sh!tlord in the portability department, but at least the javascript part should work there as well.

I don't know if you know IVAN and his web site, but he has this tutorial for rewind Ac 3phase motors for use in electric cars.

I am also not sure, But I believe that a series DC can be made into a 2 phase motor if you can separate the windings and not use the commutator. efficient, No Por Donde Jose.

It's so funny that you would mention that. I was just reading it right now!

A team of people in Sweden is putting together the AC controller, and they just converted the schematic to PDF form. It's much easier to read now. It's a PDF, so now I just need to remember the name of the place where I can post things, and then you can download it. It looks very cool. These people aren't messing around. I think they really know what they are doing. Here are their blogs:
ELBIL :: Lser mne - Byggtrd Paul&Sabrina 200kw ac-controller

ELBIL :: Lser mne - Elbil Sverige konverterar en SAAB-9-3 till en ren Elbil

OK it was called 4shared. Here is the schematic that they put together:

Looks pretty awesome!

Paul - Do you have new firmware for me to try? I didn't see anything in my email.

*AND* do you have boards kicking around for the IGBT DC Controller? And if you do, PM me what you'd sell them for.

I *WILL* be building an IGBT DC controller eventually, so maybe now is the time to pull the trigger? I'll need some stuff to do when I can't get a car into the garage ... and I think my test setup will be replaced with my wife's car (so she does not have to scrape off the windshield to drive into town) after Xmas. I've got to get as much testing done as I can before Xmas.

I'd like to see if I can add the EVTV GEVCU for doing the web interface, handling the throttle, brake, regen curves, feeding data to a display, logging, perhaps making the data available on CANbus. It's a big project, but there are others working on parts of it ...

I did quite a bit of reorganizing the variables and have over 20 streamable variables, and it also automatically saves the PI value after that test and also automatically saves the rotor time constant that it finds. Finally everything compiles, but now I just want to test it possibly later tonight. We are eating thanksgiving dinner now, and I was just sneaky and snuck away for a moment. haha
